Hi, sorry to hear of your problems.I live right out in the sticks in Norfolk so only shop once a month, but pick up a few fresh veg locally. My last big supermarket shop was Tuesday this week, then Thursday power cut. It has just come back on after 33 hours of blackout and on checking my big chest freezer it was all ruined. 3 whole chickens, joint beef, joint pork, 8 packs frozen kippers, frozen mushrooms, peppers etc, and large 5k pack of chicken breasts all ruined plus in fridge another chicken for this weekend and 6 fresh salmon fillets and 3 large tubs thick fresh cream for coffee and for using with a few berries. So very fed up.....
Looked at insurance policy but excess makes it not worth claiming ( and losing no claims bonus)
Sorry but I needed a rant to throw my toys out - no ones fault but the weather but still needed to scream and shout - sorry
Funny enough. I noticed the dog in your profile pic & thought, don't totally waste it..?Many thanks, I plan to cook as much as I can tomorrow ( too late tonight) but not sure about the salmon as it was in the fridge for all that time, also the chicken in the fridge may be a bit iffy. I may cook them and let the dogs have a feast !!
The freezer stuff I will cook and refreeze again so a bit of a chance but minimal I think. Think I might take a chance on the kippers as they are sealed in cooking/ microwave bags ( like cook in the bag) so they may be ok. No doubt I will find out!!
Funny thing is last night and tonight by the light of a candle I searched for food that didn't need cooking but was suitable for LCHF, last night found lettuce and salad bits plus a tin of tuna with mayo - so sorted. Tonight not quite so organised, half a manky pepper, a tomato that had split, a wilted lettuce, an avocado and mayo. I tried to keep the fridge door closed as long as poss so just grabbed what I could in about 5 seconds. Thank goodness it was too dark to see what I was eating.
Never mind eh...
Hi, sorry to hear of your problems.
Although you can't get financial compensation for your spoilt food, you may be able to get compensation for the inconvenience. Look at this link
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/c...ply/get-compensation-if-you-have-a-power-cut/
and see if it helps.
Do the electric board have any compo for you ?
It's saying here you will get compo ..Not for 'an act of God' like Doris
Not for 'an act of God' like Doris
Hi, if you look at the link I sent, it says you can get £70 compensation for an electricity cut caused by bad weather blowing trees onto cables. The Electricity Companies have the cash put on one side for these situations, why not claim your £70?I really don't think I can blame them for storm Doris as she was the real cause, and as most of our power lines are above ground then falling trees create havoc - the joys of living in the sticks
