No Time/Date on Meter

In September I moved GP and I was given a TrueResult Twist meter by my GP surgery as they wouldn't prescribe test strips for my previous one. As I have been using up strips from my old one I haven't really been using it much. However, having run out of test strips for the other meter I am now using this one...
My big problem with it is that it has no record of time or date. My diabetes is pretty well controlled (T1 on insulin and metformin), so I probably test about once a day at different times. This means that with the new meter I will be unable to tell what test was done when, making control more difficult to manage.
On speaking to a nurse at the practice she said they didn't realise it was missing time/date and that it was my only option - it is the only meter they have to give out to patients.

Is there any way I can get my GP to give me a meter with time/date available? They just moan about test strips being too expensive making it the only one available.

I have to say that I never look at the time/date on my meter, if I want to record it I just write it down the old fashioned way. HOWEVER, on a more helpful note, as a T1 on insulin you are entitled to test several times a day (eg if you were driving several times a day you are required to test before each drive, and every 2 hours while driving) - so if you are only doing it 1x a day you are saving them money. You could try that argument!

Drivers must test before they drive and every two hours during a long journey. If we are involved in an accident we may be asked to prove at what time we last tested and what reading was achieved. Having a meter that does not record time and date would make proving a test has been taken impossible.

Good point Ambersilva

I'm sure my first bg meter back in the 1980's had a time and date facility.

I don't drive very often, hence not needing to test lots every day. I think I might mention this to them next time - they might find it difficult to argue with the law (?)

I was told to just write it down when I test.. but I would lose the piece of paper, or not have it on me (most likely) and then forget what time I tested at etc. so this method won't work for me.
