Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any knowledge, or experience, of "nocturnal hyperglycemia"?

I have been sleeping poorly of late and on a whim decided to check my mmol/L level. It was elevated from my usual average (of around 6.5), to a high of 8.0.
I don't normally check my levels at this time, as my usual check is on waking before I eat or drink anything.
It seems strange it should be RAISED during sleep. If anything I expected it to be lower than normal.

I'm type 2, on medication, not insulin.

Suggestions please? :?

There's actually nothing strange about Bg levels rising during the night.

Do you know what your pre bed level was ? If it was perhaps a little low then you may well have 'liver dumped' during your sleep which would elevate the levels. Another suggestion is that the food you ate or something that you drank the evening before could have affected the levels.

Your metabolism doesn't stop working when you are sleeping. Bg levels will fluctuate from second to second, minute by minute, hour by hour throughout the 24 hr period. They will not stay stable over that time and there are many things which will cause them to rise and fall.....not just what you eat or drink.
