Low carb snacks could be

Almonds (chopped and roasted, add a bit of stevia sweetener if you want makes them crunchy and brings out the flavour)
Other nuts.
Bite sized cheeses (baby bells)
Cucumber sticks, green bell peppers with a mayo - if he gets along with carrots that can work too, but they're higher in sugars.
Full fat yoghurt with a bit of sweeterner (greek yoghurt normally prefered by most on here)
Small amounts of berries as they tend to have less effect on most peoples BG than do other fruits.
Sugarfree jelly with whipped cream is a favourite among some here too.
Small salamis or cocktail sausages.

Is the kid on insulin or is he a kid with type 2? Guessing insulin, yeah?

If so, he can have some carbs for snacks as long as his levels are not high I think. I am an adult of course, but I think I can get away with 5-10g without a spike if I am not high to begin with. Most sensible portions of above will stay within that limit. So would a quarter of an apple, half a thin slice of bread...

Thanks for replies. He is type 1 and on insulin. I hav. been trying from snacks of the no carb list which he is liking so far. Carrot sticks, omelettes and cheese etc. All a bit of a novelty so far so he is enjoying , but wondering for how long. The meals are not such problem at the minute as it has only been a week and we have been told to make sure he has dome carbs . Not at carb counting stage yet. I will say that it is a massive shock to the system . Hoping it gets easier the more we understand about it.

I'm type 1. I was diagnosed 16 months ago when I was 19. I snack on pecans and walnuts.I think they are about 1.5g-3.1g carbs per 100g. My newest discovery though is olives. They have no carbs and are really tasty. I do try to limit them though as they are high in salt.

Aldi have some nice multi grain crackers (red box) and wheat crakers (green box) which are only 3g per craker. A couple of those with cheese makes a nice snack.

I also like nuts, toasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds (a little oil and salt in a frying pan, add the pumpkin seads first as they take longer to cook, when they are starting to split add the sunflower seeds). I also like celery spread with either cream cheese or peanut butter.

At home hard boiled eggs are nice and will keep in the fridge so you can boil a few at once and have them ready. They are easier to peel when warm though so I find it's worth doing that before putting them in.

My kids like cheese strings and mini peperami, both are handy if you need to take something out and about.

Hi,
I quite like a stick of cheese wrapped in a slice of ham, mini peperami, sugar free jelly with a few strawberries or blueberries (Sainsbury's do a good frozen basics berry mix for about £1.10 which has straws, blackberried, blueberries and redcurrants )
