Non-diabetes blood glucose level

Hello all,

I’ve had some health checks at work in the past two years or so and have noticed that my blood glucose reading seems to be on the lower end of the range: 4mmol/l. This is following a 3 hour ‘fasting’ period where the last meal was breakfast. Now my breakfast is light and almost always consists of two slices of toast (white bread) with some tea (1 sugar).

So the recent example was I had the aforementioned breakfast at 7:45am, blood glucose was checked at 11am following the fasting period. Typically though I’ll have a cereal bar once I get into work and coffee. But by 12pm I’m usually pretty hungry and I’ll start feeling woozy if I don’t have lunch by 1pm.

I’m wondering if this warrants further investigation by my GP. I of course don’t want to be wasting their time however. I should perhaps also mention that my sister has Type 1 diabetes.

You're supposed to fast longer than that for blood tests - 12 hours at least, I believe.

Three hours is not a fast. A reading of 4mmol after a period of three hours is normal.
