Please be gentle, this is my first post. My 11 year old son was diagnosed T1 at age 9 and he has taken all in his stride. We have used Freestyle Libre for most of that time but with their current supply issues we have decided to switch to the Dexcom G5. I "sold" this to my son on the promise of no more finger prick with every meal and just a couple for calibration ( he was nervous about the intimidating looking applicator) what I hadn't factored in was that with Libre we used his aviva accu-chek for bolus advice at meal times and I thought I would just be able to use that for advice by putting in his level from the Dexcom but that isn't the case and it needs a blood sample...... can anyone tell me of a way around this? Is there an app or something? I have spend a couple of hours googling it today and found nothing. I would hate to go back on my word with my son.

@Zyroman look for apps that are bolus wizards.

Your promise to your son is probably ill advised. A dexcom G5 doesn't mean no finger prick testing. While G5 readings have been FDA approved to bolus from there is no such EU approval and you need to bear in mind how confident you are in the accuracy of the sensor - how close is it when calibrated? Has your son been doing any pre-meal activity that would cause a quick change in blood sugar that wouldn't yet be shown by the CGM, it monitors interstitial fluid that runs about 20mins behind blood sugar - if you are blindly relying on the accuracy of the sensor with no more than the twice a day callibrating blood tests you risk over bolusing at meal times if the sensor is "off". You should also be checking with a blood test when the sensor alarms for high or low.
