Well her control isn't perfect anyway...I dont think so just got to get to the bottom of it lol! I used to be on levemir but cant remember now!I have my background set perfectly but I get a rapid rise when I wake up. I have to take 3u of novo rapid for it or I will go into the teens within an hour. At all other times my background is perfect. It's just this liver dump when I get out of bed
Yeah that's what I suspected her hba1c is a 12 I think so something needs to be done lol just trying to help herI can't see a way to deal with it using basal on mdi. You'd need a pump if it's such a fast spike
Yep - sounds like there are some issues to sort out. Does she split her Levemir?Yeah that's what I suspected her hba1c is a 12 I think so something needs to be done lol just trying to help her
Nope used to but didn't work, as was still going high...I told her that I used to be on a 32 and 34 and then she was told she shouldn't be taking that much which is complete and utter nonsense!Yep - sounds like there are some issues to sort out. Does she split her Levemir?
Maybe she could switch to Lantus or even Tresiba (which is awesome)Nope used to but didn't work, as was still going high...I told her that I used to be on a 32 and 34 and then she was told she shouldn't be taking that much which is complete and utter nonsense!
I'll find out her levels first!Maybe she could switch to Lantus or even Tresiba (which is awesome)
The best thing to do is to try and get her on board with improvements. Too many have proven that when we are young, complications later on just don't seem real (doesn't just apply to diabetes). My DSN when I was a teenager was fairly terrifying, but her ramming future illness down my throat just didn't seem to work.Yeah that's what I suspected her hba1c is a 12 I think so something needs to be done lol just trying to help her
I know about dawn phenomenom I had forgotten about that but she wakes up fine but then rises afterThe best thing to do is to try and get her on board with improvements. In my opinion, it's much more important to focus on the fact that your friend CAN improve her control, and in doing so will feel so much better for it.
Going back to your original question, google dawn phenomenon. Our blood sugars tend to rise for a couple of hours after waking. However, it could be a mixture of dawn phenomenon, and incorrect dosage. It could be that a change of both diet and insulin is required to get good control.
Like me... perfect levels, even if I sleep until lunchtime - it must be the trauma of having to get out of bedI know about dawn phenomenom I had forgotten about that but she wakes up fine but then rises after
It's the same with me. My blood sugars are usually around 5 when I wake up. However, they seem desperate to go up unless I give myself a couple of units of insulin as soon as I have tested.I know about dawn phenomenom I had forgotten about that but she wakes up fine but then rises after
Ah where i would be without my pump! LolIt's the same with me. My blood sugars are usually around 5 when I wake up. However, they seem desperate to go up unless I give myself a couple of units of insulin as soon as I have tested.
With an HBA1C of 12? There's definitely a problem somewhere.Well there is a "get up" phenomenon as well as a "dawn" phenomenon. I'm not sure I see the problem really. Her overnight Levemir is working, since her waking BG is good. She then has a "get up" rise and she corrects using fast acting insulin. Sounds like she is on top of it. Does she think there is a problem? I'm not sure it's anyone's place to tell her she has a problem...
Ah I missed the HBA1c of 12. It wasn't in the original post. Still, what's being reported overnight does not explain an elevated HBA1c. The Levemir dose appears to be normal. With an HBA1C of 12? There's definitely a problem somewhere.
