Thank you....wouldn't have been so bad if the nurse hadn't been at least 18 stones and could hardly walk for the fat she was carrying. Her supply of chocolate was also on her desk along with her never ending texts she was answering from her mates !!!
Wow interesting reading thank you. My nurse said as it has gone up considerably since my last test that it could be the fact I am eating more protein and meat/fish etc. The hard fact though is my body can't cope with it which makes it all a little difficult as I can't eat carbs much so there isn't much else left to eat. I hadn't realised that it could do so much damage. Saying that, I don't have any of the symptoms other than the late onset diabetes and an early menopause and possibly high levels of estrogen that cause problems with various symptoms. Hopefully I will get an appointment for the scan soon and find out more. Not sure how I can reduce the amount of iron in my food as most of it is protein based and therefore full of it@Gezzabelle
Have a read of the haemochromatosis part of this link.

Yea .. Congratulations on the levels ..and for realising that with this your Dr is going to be no help whatsoever.... I am also in remission..but my dbn is saying to me to eat more carbs so I can still show in their system as diabetic..completely bonkers ....
I can eat carbs now without affecting my bs .. But I don't want to eat them ! I love my new diet and still could lose more weight.
Hope your scan goes ok
Her statement that I am NOT diabetic was based on the fact my new HbA1c was 5.7.....only achieved by eating as a diabetic and very low carbCongratulations and well done - and in record time too!
If I was wicked I'd wish diabetes on your miserable nursie...
So a gold star for you:

My own GP did tell me that if I got my weight back down to normal, my pancreas might be able to cope once more, and I could possibly end up non-diabetic again, so I got a reason for his suggestion. But I'd be very wary about changing my diet back to a carb laden one if this was ever to happen.
I can't complain about my diabetic foot and eye care, but that's about it - I was I told I was well controlled by practice diabetes "specialist" last summer and have been more or less abandoned since then. I was really grateful that I'd discovered this forum before I had the pleasure of meeting him. It's my own GP who arranged my last HbA1c and I'll go to him for any further tests.
It's no wonder if the NHS is under strain...

Could you not try cutting down your meat and fish meals .. Maybe to just one or two days in a week go veggie for the rest of your meals .. Veggies are not as high in protein as meat ..Wow interesting reading thank you. I could do that easily but to be honest I am unsure of which veggies I am allowed to eat....need to do some research on thatCould you not try cutting down your meat and fish meals .. If your looking for what are ok carb wise .. Then just cut right down or loose potatoes ..beetroot is also quite high .as are most root vegetables . Peas are another highish in carbs .. But I was always ok with peas ... Butternut squash can be high .. But I do eat all veggies .. As I am a vegetarian ! But the wife will calculate the carbs and adjust to keep within my carb counting.I could do that easily but to be honest I am unsure of which veggies I am allowed to eat....need to do some research on that
I have found a list of low carb veggies....hopefully I can make some kind of meals from them. I dumped potatoes completely and all root veg as soon as I found this forum. I need to find some recipes and ideas for tasty meals. Losing all the carbs has led to huge weight loss so finding ways to keep it up is proving difficult. I wonder if they do a high calorie sprout lolIf your looking for what are ok carb wise .. Then just cut right down or loose potatoes ..beetroot is also quite high .as are most root vegetables . I am about to add that to my shopping list even though the nurse said high fat is totally wrong!...but as she got little else right I don't really care. I am being pushed to lower cholesterol that by her own admission is already normal so not going to worry too much about it right now.Keeping your fats up should stop the weight loss .. I have olive oil or coconut oil to keep my calories up
Just had my new HbA1c result and it's down from 6.5 or 48.5 to 5.7 Folate is down from 19.1 to 17.1 Ferratin is up from 167 to 225 which is why I have to have a liver scan. My fasting BG is 5.4 and my ESR is 35 which she says is normal. My cholesterol was HDL normal Triglycerides normal and LDL normal ...overall it is 5.8 and she wants it down to 5.2 which is confusing as it is all normal ? She now says I am NOT diabetic as my new HbA1c is 5.7...only achieved by eating like a type 2 diabetic!!!!. She says now to go back to eating cereal for breakfast, bread, potatoes etc and get my ferrratin re tested in 3 months. I am totally confused and according to the nurse I am not diabetic ...BUT....WILL be if I eat carbs again and am retested in 12 months !!!! Confused as hell[/QUOTE
Well done @Gezzabelle on your results! I had the same issue when I had my review in July - hba1c was 36 and cholesterol 4.8 (HDL 2.5/LDL 2.3)but she wanted it lower and told me that I was eating too much fat and should eat low fat foods. Then she suggested statins again even though she knew that last time I was on them they made me ill and increased my hba1c from 48 to 58 - no need to tell you how that conversation finished! She got her revenge though because she wants me to have another review in January next year! My philosophy is if it ain't broke don't fix it so just carry on with what you're doing because it's obviously working!I am about to add that to my shopping list even though the nurse said high fat is totally wrong!...but as she got little else right I don't really care. I am being pushed to lower cholesterol that by her own admission is already normal so not going to worry too much about it right now.
