I first posted on Friday, as I had a pre-prandial level of 8.

I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes, but I do have another condition with makes me more likely to get other auto-immune diseases such as diabetes.

I have a blood glucose monitor, as while in hospital last month for my other illness, (Addison's disease) I kept having hypos. I'm a runner and wanted to keep an eye on my blood sugar levels, which I felt would give me the confidence I needed to start running alone outside again.

I have hardly used the machine as I measured a couple of times and my levels were fine. I even started running again.

I'd been thirsty since leaving hospital last month, but last weekend, I became very thirsty, which continued to get worse. By Wednesday, I was feeling ill. I was tired, felt sick and had a bad headache. I was drinking and weeing a lot and even waking in the night thirsty. My mouth was also dry.

My GP sent me for blood tests on Thursday, but they were normal. (I hadn't eaten in over 24hrs due to nausea) Later that day, after eating, I started to get dizzy on standing, itchy and had flashing lights in front eyes.

My GP rang on Friday and told me she was making an urgent referral to an Endo at the hospital.

That's where I was up to on my last post on here, but now I have another question.

I have just tested my blood sugar post prandial. (Two hours after eating) It's 10mmol/L. My GP is ringing me tomorrow, but should I be ringing her first thing? How serious is this?

I don't feel so dizzy now and I'm not as itchy. I'm slightly confused/ slow in thinking. Everything else is the same as earlier in the week.

I'm a lady. My BMI is 18.6 and I'm 30.

I'd really appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Jen

Oh and my pulse is high. (For me) My resting pulse is 91. It's usually between 50-55.

ring your Dr and check
If it was me, I would buy a tub of ketostiks as well, I wouldn't worry about blood glucose under 12 and I would do a morning ketone test
if I got a sudden change with high BG and high ketone, I would seek immediate medical assistance at A&E...otherwise I'd relax and wait for my urgent referral to the hospital which should be seen this week by an endo, hopefully by Wednesday.

you are stressing which can race your pulse too

By the way 10 memo/il converts to 185 mg/dl which is right in the middle of diabetic range

Salad wholemeal wrap and cereal bars. That's all I can eat with the nausea.

Thanks for the advice Jack. Can I get the strips from a chemist?

yes, sorry I left that bit out...if you aren't eating properly, you will have diet ketones which will blur the result, but I would be looking for a sudden high sugar with high ketones to be serious to worry about and will need some insulin to fix at A&E

no sense me telling you not to worry, because I would be worried in your position, even though you aren't reading diabetic.. but if in any doubt go to A&E, better safe than sorry :)

Ok, I'll get some sticks from the chemist. I'll also speak to my GP as soon as possible. I won't be eating again before then, so hopefully I'll avoid any more hospital trips.

Thanks again.

That's put my mind at rest.

that's a treatment range for diabetics, without treatment or diet control, the nondiabetic person won't ever go above 11.1 and 11 after a normal meal is still non diabetic and would be classed as prediabetic
I would be eating or sipping sugar water, even nauseous why would you not want to eat?

I am eating and drinking lots of water. The nausea is at it's worst when I see or smell food and after I've eaten.

if you can I would eat a normal diet as I could till I saw the endo, you know how you feel...if it is getting worse or if I had any real change of symptoms from what was on Friday, I would go to A&E. it's sunday night UK, there is also 24hr/7 NHS help lines that can help
I'm only saying about diabetic stuff

Thank you. I'll keep an eye on things. Much happier now I know my reading isn't particularly high anyway.

Thanks again.

Jen
