Not following health care providers recommendations

My question wasn't particularly clear apologies. I inject insumman basal 2 units before bed as prescribed by the HCP, i wanted to know if i can take the same dose in the morning for the daytime. My HCP provider advised no and there was no such thing as background insulin for the daytime. Reading topic's in this forum several people are taking this so i am trying to get more information to confrot my HCP with.

You could, but the 'Time Profile' of it and your low dose is going to give you problems.. Insumman Basal is an older annaloge insulin, with a 45 minute onset time, peaks at 2 hours (the peak lasting around 10 hours) then tails of the next 12 hours,

So splitting a 2u dose isn't going to be easy, and I would be very doubtful behind this wisdom of this and probably why your HCP has said no..

It easier to change the insumman over to the newer insulins. Lantus or Levimer..

Both are 24 hour injections..

Levimer is actually designed as a 24 hour injection, but does tail off around 18 hours, hence why a lot of people split it into 2 injections a day to get a better coverage..

Lantus is also designed for 24 hours it has a flatter time profile than Levimer, but Levimer splits a lot better..

So perhaps have a word with your HCP to change over to one of the above so that you can split easier...
