Not heard from GP yet

Well i got my hb1ac result of 51 2 days ago when i rang the receptionist, however, the doctor still hasnt contacted me to discuss it! I wonder when they will have a look at my blood results!,

Why not be pro-active - just phone to make your appointment?

I am a practice nurse and dont need a full appt, thats a waste of gp time, i just need a quick chat so will wait for them to ring me, they know me well so probably think i dont need any advice etc, but i am no expert on diabetes
 
Hi @neety41 and welcome to the forum. I have never spoken to a GP on the phone, and they have never phoned me. I have always had to make an appointment to see them in person. If I don't need the full 10 minutes allocated to each appointment I don't use it all, just as long as I need to find out what I need to know. They are happy if you don't use the allocated time as they can then spend longer with another patient who might need more time.
 
Hi. At our surgery we are able to talk to a named GP (or nurse) over the phone later in the day. Do you have a diabetes specialist nurse at the surgery? We do have one so I could always make an appointment to see or talk to her. Normally after T2 first diagnosis you would see the diabetes GP or nurse at the surgery 3 months later in which case you would normally setup the appointment and arrange the blood test around 2 weeks before. To be honest with an Hba1c of 51 which is not too bad the GP/nurse will almost certainly say to have the right diet for 3 months, have another blood test and review, and then possibly be put onto Metformin. As you've probably gathered what most of us consider the right diet may differ from what you may be advised by the surgery. As a figure of 51 is diabetic do check that the surgery now has you on the 'official' diabetes list so you get called for retinal screening, free scripts etc (my GP forgot to add me)

Well if they think you don't need any advice why would they phone you?
Also is your GP an "expert" on Diabetes? Most aren't.. Just a thought.. you could do a lot worse than read around here and see what we have al done to get our blood sugars under control.

I got the call this morning-they want repeat hb1ac etc on Monday-my cholesterol is 6.8! Not 4.6 as I was told-but fed up with myself as I have never smoked and most of the time I eat healthy but need some weight off like most of us but I know people with bigger weight issues than me
 
I guess you may know that Total cholesterol doesn't really matter; it's the LDL, HDL and Trig ratios that tell you about your risks. A lot of statins are (wrongly?) prescribed on the basis of Total alone.
 
Yeah i didnt ask the breakdown, i have had high triglycerides before when on zoladex, side effect of medication that time. Toatl cholestrol of 6.8 is still not good

If you have the results it would be reasonable to assume that the Dr has also seen them. A lot goes on behind the scenes in a surgery. But I am sure you are aware of that. Please be patient.(No pun intended). I was left hanging around for ten weeks before I received confirmation as a T2. in November 2015. Since then I have had an eye test and just attended a Desmond course. But I did get bags of info as a Newbie from this organisation for which I didn't have to wait days, just hours. Much info from NHS sources is at odds with the wider realm of diabetes which tends to be more up to date in its thinking. It would appear that the NHS is concerned that its finances has no chance of keeping up with existing illnesses and the fact that for every person who dies two or more are diagnosed. World wide ,that is. I wouldn't say that they bury their collective heads in the sand as they have little hope of containing the desease at present, but they just don't have the money.
So the answer is to read all about it and self treat where the NHS cannot. This site has many answers to diabetic problems and there is a wealth of information on the internet. So keep looking here etc. to find your solutions. Whatever you do do not despair.

Thankyou mike, yes i got the call 2 days later and repeat fasting bloods tomorrow, my fasting blood sugar this morning was 7.5, 1.5hrs post meal was 11.3 yest then 9.7 2hrs post meal
