I have just received the hospital letter i,ve been waiting for, its a face to face meeting with the pump doctor. if anyone could give me any idea of what to expect. eg what sort of things i might be asked, i dont want to mess this up i,ve been on injection for 40 years and would love the freedom of a pump

Hi caretaker,
glad to hear you've got some good news. Would you like to say what area you're in someone else might have been through the same thing in the same area and could give you some inside pointers.
I found my pump really hard to get hold of nearly 7 years ago now but once you speak to the right person it's a bit less of a battle. The main thing they want to know is how well controlled you are and what's the reasoning behind the control. So firstly do you fit the nice guidelines? How often are you testing presently? Can you carb count or on the list for Dafne or similar course? Basically if you come to the appointment with as much info about your control as possible so lots of test results perhaps with some food diaries or some fasting tests if able. The easier it then is for the doctor to put you forward for the pump. How much do you already know about the pump and would you like to ask us all some questions on things your not sure of? Most hospitals require people to fit the nice guidelines but even if you've got good HbA1c if you have problems with hypo awarness you still qualify. Most hospitals require people to be able to carb count a lot of people get sent to Dafne or there might be something similar your own hospital has instead. Because of the exspense of pumps most hospitals want to see that you're trying to do as much as possible for good control at the moment and will continue with that effort once you get a pump. If you have some other reasons for the pump like it would in enable you to do your job easier eg shift work, driving, working off shore, outdoors, things like that it may help as well.
Good luck and if there are any particulars you want to ask go ahead there's a big lot of us all on different types of pumps, sets, cgms and with extra ailments somebody hopefully will get back to you.
Laura
