Thanks for all your replies, Patch that's a very comprehensive answer!! :D I will try and really cut back hard on the carbs for a week or so, see what that does for me. I have been eating a lot of tomatoes in things, fresh & tinned, raw & cooked, so I will give them a rest for a while definitely! Also will be easy to lay off the almonds (and peanut butter, I guess?) Not sure about a "protein day" - I imagine that is quite expensive. The only trouble I really have is breakfast. I was having bacon, poached egg & mushrooms for breakfast at first, but have had to stop this as a couple of weeks showed it to be unsustainable cost-wise. Hence the switch to yogurt & berries, which is much cheaper. Breakfast is where I really struggle - I have tried eating things like meat/veg/salad etc for breakfast, but I find that difficult to eat first thing. Smoked fish just repeats on me all day  Any other suggestions for cheap, filling, quick breakfast ideas (that won't make me feel sick! :? ) gratefully recieved!! Am definitely going to talk to the gym people this weekend too :)
