Either my insulin sensitivity is absolutely off the scale or my pancreas may still be doing something.

Cycled 98km in yesterday at a decent pace (27.5km/h, 17mph) with 1U of basal only, a very light snack of 15g carbs and a cup of coffee, went a bit like this, testing my usual 45 mins.

Pre breakfast 4.9, 15g carbs, 1U Basal, no bolus
Pre ride - 7.9
45mins - 4.6 - 1 9-bar
90 mins 5.9 - 1 gel
135mins - 3.2 - 1 gel - didn't see that one coming
Arrived at the Abbey, 68km, nice National Trust flapjack and coffee - 6.3 no bolus
spent the next hour playing around with the kids
+30 mins 6.6
+60 mins - lunch - 6.7, 15g carbs, no bolus, another hour or so playing around with the kids

Starting for home again (30km) 4.9, 250ml carb drink
45min - 4.2 - 500ml carb drink over the next section
Home 4.5 - another 9-bar
+30min - 6.1
+60min - 5.6

Dinner was at a thai restaurant, about 45g carbs from rice, halved my dose to 1.5U bolus, went from 4.9 to 8.2 2-hours later.

So overall yesterday I had about 250g carbs with just 1.5 U bolus. Also reduced basal in the evening from 5-4 units to be on the safe side.

Interesting.

What's your normal dose now Dave on a "quiet" day ? Could still be honeymoon but that's a long time now. May just go to show the huge benefit of exercise ?

NOrmally on 15:1 for bolus, basal is reduced with this hot weather but normally 3U am, 5Upm.

I think that's the big question really whether I'm prolonging the honeymoon period or whether this is simply an exercise response. As far as I know the increase insulin sensitivity from exercise can last as long as 48 hours, so regularity is the key. If I talk to the exercise specialist DSN at Addenbrookes, she tells me that she has sone marathon runner in honeymoon 4 years down the line. Thing is I don't think you can actually test for insulin production as it's not one of these things that hangs around in the body.

Does the C Peptide test not show this ? Whatever the reason, it's working
Nice work Dave.
