Hello, I am trying to get my reading down from 6.4, so that I do not go on to be diabetic.
I am not over-weight, and never have been, I eat and drink (wine with meals) in moderation.
There is no record of diabetes in my family as far as I know.
I have not had enough exercise for the past year, as I damaged my back erecting a greenhouse, so I have spent a lot of time at my computer, having been reasonably active before the accident, I cannot find another reason why my blood glucose should suddenly go up.
Anyone else in the same dilemma, help would be appreciated, all suggestions (almost!) welcome.

Your profile says Gestational. Is that the case as you do not tell us in your post ?

Is the figure of 6.4 that you quote a HbA1c or a finger prick Bg reading ?

Hi, Sorry, it is finger tip reading, and I may have chosen the wrong description of symptoms, I only had this reading a few days ago, having had no contact with diabetes before, I am not sure what I do next.

Hi,, It was 3hrs after food, I have an appointment for a fasting test next week, so I should get a better idea when I get another check.
Thanks,
Paticat.

Hi Paticat,
Have you been diagnosed with pre diabetes by any chance? In your post you say you are trying to get your readings down so you don't become diabetic, so I am guessing that you already suspect somethings amiss. I have been diagnosed as pre and am trying my best to make sure it stays that way. As I understand it, it ain't definate that you will become diabetic, but just to try and make sure it is a good idea to eat like you already are. There is some great advice on diet on the site. Personally I go for a lower, as opposed to a low carb diet, but I do admit that a high carb meal can send my bs up to silly levels. Have you lookes into low impact excersises that won't have a bad effect on your back problem? Try talking to the doc when you go for your fasting test about what is suitable. Good luck with the test, and remember even if you are diabetic it isn't the end of the world, just a bit of a wobble.
