First of all - don’t panic! I know, I know, easier said than done, but I got similar news at the optician earlier this year, he found fluid behind my eye, but reassured me there was no diabetic damage to be seen, but he was writing to my gp to see if my diabetic screening could be brought forward, in the end it wasn’t, but they also picked up the fluid and I received the most useless letter ever on a Saturday morning telling me ‘diabetic changes had been found’ and of course there was no one to call to question it and bring me back off the ceiling! Luckily I already had an appointment with the eye hospital the following Tuesday, so took my results letter with me and the doctor said she would cancel that referral as she was doing all the tests that day, anyway, long story short, no diabetic damage, my eyes are pretty healthy, fluid likely caused by stress, will most likely reabsorb by itself but I am under the surveillance branch (eye hospital) until it clears up and then I’ll go back to regular screening. It’s not always bad news and they are aiming for prevention of problems with regular screening. It does seem odd the nurse told you this though, I questioned the nurse taking my photos at my last screening and couldn’t get a peep out of him!
