sorry chaps been to see the doc today and although Hba1c is down was only to 9.6 so am now joining the mefartin users :(

i did put up a valiant fight with the doc but she sees it as a good thing as she says it will help me for the future and sadly i am not capable of getting the bs down on my own, not for want of trying though

hey ho, looking forward to getting used to this, onwards and upwards!

BTW will continue with the low/no carb regime anyway don't see that they will help me any

******! Ah well the plus sides of Metaformin is that it has been shown to protect the cardiovascular system in the long run. The side effects subsided with me after 3 or 4 days, not sure if that has anything to do with limiting carbs. Try to keep your spirits up, you've nothing to apologise for!

That's not a bad thing, it has positive benefits on insulin resistance especially in the presence of exercise, and if you can get that down and keep it down your general system repsonsiveness will improve.

Some people improve enought that they can discontinue it later but don't be in too much of a hurry, as Doczoc says it has cardioprotecive benefits even if you don't smell very nice for a while.

Metformin seems to be safe and works. Although my GP thinks it's nephrotoxic. I looked it up and it can be a problem with failing kidneys, but doesn't cause them. I guess my Doc got confused.
Also I never had the "Tummy Grumblies"
I hope you don't either

Start on the lowest dose you can and work up - unlike me - my doc gave me 3 x 500 mg a day and I had the squacks for about 5 days /// so if you can start on one a day and then work up after a week you might suffer less ... Other than the initial poo-stream that same with metfartin I really don't think it's harmful in general, unless you're contraindicated by some other problem (such as kidney failure) ... best of luck and don't worry about the gufftasticness ... blame the dog or the sprouts ... :) xx

No need to apologise,Jacquirs! Just because you need to take Metformin does not mean you have failed, carry on with the low carbing and the metformin and get your Hba1c to safe levels that's what matters, your health and future risk of complications. If you carry on maybe one day you will be able to discontinue the medication.
