My elderly father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes some 10 years ago and is now injecting insulin twice a day so I am aware of signs and symptoms. Last February, I started noticing that my eyesight was becoming very blurred and was running to the toilet more frequently and getting very thirsty. I then took a BS reading and found the reading to be in the mid 9, first thing in the morning. As such I bought a meter and took readings in the morning and 3 hours after eating in the evening. The readings over the past few months have been erratic from the lowest of 9 to those of High (or above 33 so the manual says). I have changed my diet, stopped eating bread or cakes, lost a stone in weight and the readings have dropped to around 7 and to around 15 after having eaten (2 hours after). I have also checked my ketozone levels weekly and they all appear to be Nil. I am aware I should have gone to the Doctors but my lifestyle is such that I live on a narrowboat and tour around the country all summer and then stop for a few months over winter. My Doctors is where I previously had a house and all my medications are on repeat prescriptions and as such I haven't seen my Doctor for the past 3 years. For this reason, I continue to watch my diet and monitor readings and to date it would appear to be working although I have noticed my visits to the toilet have increased again. Appreciate most people will think me mad, but I personally think this is still in the honeymoon stage so believe diet alone at this stage should be enough and then I will see a Doctor when we settle down to one location next year.
