Dear All,
I am using the Novomix 30 before breakfast(8:45) I take 10 or 11 units and before my evening meal (7pm) 4 or 5 units.
The question I have is how the doseage of insulin worked out for the morning and evening.
Should there always be say a difference of between 6 and 7 units or can I increase the evening units by 1 or 2 units if my BG reading high.
Many Thanks
Ray

Hello Ray

Usually Novomix's action will come on about 1-2hrs after its been injected (rough guide only though).

You can increase it up a bit to cover your eve meal but you will need to keep testing your bg levels especially when you go to bed as you might find that your levels drop. Another way of being able to eat more carb that you would do normally is to ask if you could have a fast acting bolus insulin to use as a small backup. Usually you would only need about 1-2u bolus to cover a high carb meal. You are better I think to use a bolus insulin to correct any high readings as pre mix insulin can be unpredictable if different amounts of carb is eaten.

Do you eat at regular times using little and often principle and then alter the carb that you eat so that your bg levels stay stable?
