Novo rapid flexipen advice required

Started on this last night. If your using one how many units do you start on and how many days before you expect to see results?
 
Novo rapid work rafter 5-10 mins after injecting and I give my self 4 unit if sugar go above 15 it depends on what ur DN has told u
 
My DN just said to inject before each meal when having carbs. Would you still take if you were not having carbs eg fish n vegetables

Didn't your DSN give you any advice at all on dosage?

No she just said she would fax my GP to put me on it. I've had 4 appointments and seen 3 diff nurses. They keep leaving! This last one said I should see you in a month but we don't have any appointments for 3 months!! And she has handed in her notice!!
On the upside I have a number to ring when I have been on it 3 days.
 
I guess it's too late to speak to your GP now. Sounds obvious, but have you checked the pen and case and packaging to see if there are any dosage instructions on it?

Insulin is a great drug but the right dose is crucial. The dose will vary between people a lot, so no one here can give you advice about how much to take. Too much could be dangerous.
 
Guess I'll have to stay on the 5 till fri. I'm just keen to see some results...when they put me on the lantus pen they said to start on 8 then up it by 2 units every 3 days till my levels come down. I'm now on 40 units and still above 10!!

Hi again. I saw in your other thread that you'd read that 5 units was a 'starting dose'. Actually, a starting dose can be as low as half a unit. It depends on so many things.

If it was me, I wouldn't wait until Friday. I'd call the surgery as soon as possible and get proper advice on dosage. Just like with your Lantus, you should have been given instructions on dose with this insulin. I can only think there must have been a mistake or crossed wires somewhere. It doesn't sound right.

Please err on the side of caution and be very, very careful.
 
that is teribble not to have been told how much to take, I would do as azure has said and phone as soon as you can.
 
Well I just did my 2hrs after dinner test and I'm 13.3 so I'm guessing 5 is not enough. I will make the call tomorrow thanks.
 
I rang the DSN this morning and was directed via ansaphone to an emergency no this in turn to 999. I'm not a 999 case so I then rang my GP who called me back and told me the letter from DSN stated to start on 2. He was not able to advise me on dosage?? I must ring the DSN which I have and I am now waiting a call back.
Is this a fair example of the support available (or lack off)
 
This is pretty terrible advice you've been getting. You should have been advised by the DSN as to what you should be starting on as an insulin to carb ratio, and should then have been told how to adjust it.

Giving someone fast acting insulin and no instructions is akin to being given a revolver with two bullets and saying spin the barrel and stick it against your head, then pull the trigger. However it is administered, insulin is a dangerous substance and needs to be handled with great care and proper advice.

Given your current status, I suspect the dose you have been told to do is likely to be okay, but if you have even the slightest concern, you should call the DSN right now and don't give up until you get the answers you need.
 
Ok I finally spoke to a DSN they upped my units to 7 before each meal with carbs. I have to call back next tues with my test results. At last I feel like I have a direction.
