Novorapid Insulin Vials DISCONTINUED?????

Hi I've just been to the chemist to collect my prescription of Novorapid Insulin vials for my pump and the pharmacist informed me that they have been discontinued by the company as they are not widely used as everyone uses the penfill cartridges. I informed him that I was on an insulin pump and didn't use the pen to inject and he suggested I contact my doctor to get them to prescribe something else. Has anyone else heard anything about the vials being discontinued. Luckily I work at the hospital where I am seen for my diabetes so will be going over to the Diabetes Centre tomorrow to try and get some more information and find out what else I could be prescribed.

I think your chemist is telling rather large porkies...

If novorapid vials had been discontinued then you would have been aware of this...

There is a set procedure that companies have to follow before discontining an item such as a insulin container..

And it starts about 1 years before they discontinual them..

Novo-Nordisc will make it public knowledge that it intends to do this now adays they will make an anouncment on their website..

Then they contact the Health Care Athourties around the world to inform them it going to happen on xxx date, so that each country can inform all the doctors/consultants and clinics..

Also they will also put a notice on the packaging for you to contact your health care professionals..

This is the procedure that Lilley & Lilley followed when the discontined their 1.5mml/l cartridges, with the exceptiion of the web as it wasn't available at the time..

So I found out when I noticed the warning notice on the packaging telling me to contact my health care provider.. This happened about 6 months before they discontined the cartridges.. I had to change to adult 3ml cartridges and pens..

Ring novo-nordisc tomorrow check whether they are a supply problem, which I doubt as I haven't hard this mentioned anywhere else..

And take your prescription to another chemist..

I can't see them discontining the vials...

Novorapid and humalog are one of the top insulins injecting or used in insulin pumps..

Yes in this country most diabetics injecting insulin will be using an insulin pen to do so, but in countries such as America syringes are still a first choice for a lot of diabetics.. They Americans have always mistrusted pens..

I spoke to my Diabetic Specialist Nurse this morning who said it was absolutely ridiculous that the pharmacist had said they would be discontinued as there was absolutely no way this would be true. She then phoned my pharmacy for me and told me that they had actually just been having trouble with their supply and have just ordered some more which should be in with the next day or two! Don't think they realise how much they panic people when they say something like that. Anyway hopefully if I go back at the weekend they will have it in then!

Thanks for your comments and support last night :)
