I am on novorapid 3 times a day. I've just eaten a late lunch but still want my tea at usual time of having it, but only 3 hours will have gone by before my next injection. Will it matter just this once if I inject before 4 hours has passed?
 
Just be aware the insulin will overlap more than usual, so the lunchtime insulin might still be working at tea time, so you might need to inject less than normal.

I useually stick to not having insulin less than 4 hours apart, however there have been occasions where i have had it 2-3 hours after my last dose. I don't see any harm in you wanting to do this. If you do decide to, keep a close eye on your BG levels so you don't experience all your insulin working at once and going hypo. i also wouldnt use any correction units as you may be slightly raised before your meal due to your last dose not out your system,

We've done this in the past with no problem. We give the usual amount as worked out on your carb ratio against how many carbs your meal is, we don't reduce the amount of insulin injected according to how many carbs you're eating. But don't correct a higher than usual pre-meal blood glucose reading as the insulin from the previous meal will still be working. If you try to correct a higher than usual reading then you might experience a hypo as a result of insulin stacking. As it's a change from your usual routine it's always best to keep an eye on your bg after the meal to make sure everything is okay.
 
Thank you I'm just on fixed doses of insulin I don't carb count or do correction doses

Sorry to jump in here but it was interesting to read this thread as my Son being a newcomer to multiple dose injections, he has on numerous occasions, injected before 4 hours is up as we were not aware that there was meant to be such a gap. Especially if he gets up late now on a weekend, has breakfast and in 2-3 hours is eating lunch, this would account for the hypos he was having 2 hours after lunch. We are learning something every day
 
We find that after 3 hours the novorapid has pretty much done it's thing, peaking at around 2, but of course this will vary from person to person. We don't often let our kids have injections between meals, but do on the weekend. Sometimes this can be within an hour of breakfast or lunch and if so we wouldn't blood check, but just give the amount of insulin to carb ratio for that snack. If the time elapsed is 2 or more hours from the last injection then we do a blood check and only correct If the reading is higher than expected at that time.
 

The insulin profile for novorapid states that it is still active up to 4-5 hours after injecting hence why they advise against injecting again before 4 hours has lapsed. I may be wrong but I think by the 2 hour mark after injecting that 70-80% of the insulin is exhausted but the remainder can still be enough to lower bg and cause hypo's

I have used novorapid inside of the 4 hour mark.
The only thing that I did differently is that I pretty much ignored the blood test before the meal / snack and assumed that my sugar was in the right range and injected just to cover the carbs I was easting. So no correction at all.

So far that seems to have worked for me though I know someone who gets an odd effect if she tries the same and she has to back off some.

As think as with most things you just need to very carefully try it for yourself but be ready with the hypo treatments just in case. We are all different and what works for one wont always work for anyone else.
 
I have had meals within 1.5 hrs of each other in the passed...do need to inject a little less but even if you don't it just means you may need to treat a hypo, which doesn't bother me providing I catch it early..

i have been taking nova rapid three times a day morning 8 units ,at noon 6 units & before dinner 6 units along with lantus 18 units before dinner .. i take brekfast at 8 am lunch at 2 pm & dinner at 8.30 pm .. my present HBAIC is 7. plz guide me in the matter ..
