What do the meals and drinks currently look like? Maybe there's hidden carbs in there somewhere. Lord knows they're often easy enough to overlook.I've been doing the LCHF for few weeks now, and still my numbers are in double figures, before breakfast usually around 11 or 12 and mostly 11 to 13 or 14 through the day ,my HBA1C was 120 last bloods about 6 week ago , will it take a while to get down to lower figures am I just inpatient
My meals are 2 vouked eggs for breakfast on 1 ryvita , ham salad for lunch , then pork scratchings for a treat or some chicken drumsticks , pick on cheese throught day and for tea bit really any carbs just meat amd salad again may have a few squares of 90% dark choc on a eve but that's about it so I've really cut most carbs put of my dietWhat do the meals and drinks currently look like? I would've expected better numbers for you by now though... Curious.

I have brought my bs down years ago with diet , and gone off the wagon a lot , had a few years of stress and loss of my mum amd dad so I'm trying to get back to looking after myself xIf those were my figures @maxjoe121 I would be asking my Dr for a C-Peptide test. It’s a blood test. C-Peptides are produced by your pancreas. They directly correspond with insulin release so the labs use C-Peptides to measure how much insulin your pancreas is producing. C-Peptides are more stable than insulin, that’s why we get tested for C-Peptides and not insulin.
If your C-Peptide test comes back low in comparison to your blood sugar levels they will likely test for autoimmune antibodies. I’m not saying you have T1, however, when you are unable to bring down your blood sugars through life style changes or meds then Type 1 diabetes may be the cause.
That said, if you are very insulin resistant , as a Type 2, then small amounts of carbs can keep your blood sugars high.
I am on metformin and thry have me glimepiride but I didn't take the glimepiride as I thought I'd try with diet but I'll start the glimepiride tomorrow and see if that helpsIt’s not that carb heavy but I wouldn’t be able to cope with the ryvita- if you are snacking throughout the day then even though it’s not carbs your body is still expecting food all the time. I don’t snack. Maybe increase your food at meal times so your not hungry to snack between?- my day is something like this
Breakfast - some form of eggs, I have 3 scrambled, boiled, omelet- sometimes with a bit of bacon or cheese and the occasional slice of low carb bread - I have that around 6ish
Lunch at 12ish usually a sandwich made with low carb roll from the Low Carb Food Co. With meat or cheese or tinned fish, bit of mayo, salad sometimes a bit of avocado
Dinner at 6ish meat with veggies - either as they are or made into a curry/stir fry/stew. Last night I had cabbage & leek sweated off in butter, pork belly strips done in the air fryer then at 8 o’clock a square of 85% choc.
I don’t snack in between but I do have a small snack of a handful of nuts or a cube of cheese or slice of meat about 11ish as I don’t get to bed until about 1 am and sometimes I’m a little bit hungry in bed and can’t sleep
Are you just diet only?@maxjoe121 , stress can drive up your blood sugars, but you seem to be organising yourself which is great. Try keeping a food diary if It helps. Make notes what foods drive up your blood sugars and what foods don’t. I always find writing stuff down helps, galvanizes my mind. Have a look at some of the foody forums here for ideas.
No, unfortunately. I tried the low carb diet for 9 months, went into nutritional ketosis the lot. It barely moved my blood sugars. I may have a damaged pancreas though. The only thing that happened was weight loss. I’m a lean , fit diabetic , so that’s just me. A lot of people have had great success with making big reductions in carb intake. Are you just diet only?
So many things can affect blood sugars other than diet, stress being a big one right there. And what we call "grazing" throughout the day may be keeping your numbers higher, even when low carbing. But I do think maybe testing for a type other than 2 might indeed be useful...I have brought my bs down years ago with diet , and gone off the wagon a lot , had a few years of stress and loss of my mum amd dad so I'm trying to get back to looking after myself x

If the glimepiride starts to bring it down would then qoukd that tell me I'm type 2Thankyou
I was 14 this morning and now after lunch of ham salad it's 11.2No, unfortunately. I tried the low carb diet for 9 months, went into nutritional ketosis the lot. It barely moved my blood sugars. For peace of mind, think about asking your Dr to do that C-Peptide test. At least then you will have a sense of how much insulin your pancreas is producing. If it’s over producing insulin, then that is likely due to Insulin Resistance and therefore very likely you are T2. This gives you the opportunity to bring those blood sugars down through dietary changes.I was 14 this morning and now after lunch of ham salad it's 11.2
Starting glimepiride and seeing what it does is not a diagnostic tool for type of diabetes. If the glimepiride starts to bring it down would then qoukd that tell me I'm type 2
