Over the last week or so my levels have been getting a bit out of control so for the last 2 days I've been trying to pay extra attention to everything. I have always had problems with my overnight levels so I was wondering if you would mind having a look and seeing what you think.

I'm tying myself in knots trying to work out correct basel rates, carb:insulin ratios, correction doses etc, I know I need to chill and focus on one thing at a time but I just can't haha. I think the basal might be correct now at 10u morning and night. Day 1 although high during the day I stayed fairly flat without food and I did start high so that probably knocked me out. Night 2 I think the 10u was good. I only went up 1 overnight which is the best I have ever managed. I'm not convinced my carbs:insulin ratios are right. I feel like I'm low carbing but still needing quite a lot of insulin but I know the protein/fat can pay a part in that. Does anyone have any thoughts on my numbers and suggestions on what to look at next.

I wish I could help Trixy. But I'm too new too. My levels been a bit high recently, I think mines cause I'm due on in a few days. Your levels aren't too bad though in all honesty, you may need to look at your basal. Remember being newly diagnosed, it may be honeymoon period playing up!! That's what I think with me sometimes, maybe honeymoons ending soon?

Added notes above to your text. Doing good , keep trying. Would give it a few days for things to settle and correct when needed. test your basal properly then when you wake up with a good reading 5-7 blood test, but, take levimir as normal, that way no correction nova rapid would be needed prior, no breakfast, test every hour till lunch, readings ideally would stay within 1- 1.5.

Thank you! So would you take a correction before bed? I've always been wary going to sleep with insulin in my system.

Personally, I would have a correction if high before bed, still worried me doing that, but, thankfully not needed correction in a long time. The aim is to wake with a good level to enable your basal test in the morning without needing a correction. So if you were for example 12 before bed, and you would normally correct with 2 units, correct with 1 unit if you was unsure if you would go to low. If still too high am don't bother doing the basal test, no biggie try next morning, but , you have a gauge of your correction dose for night time. That way, if you were to be around 12 next night, try 2 units and so on, till you get in range am. As your correction would be fully used by morning safe to do basal test. may take weeks to do all parts of the day but fully worth it .
