Started lantus and nova rapid yesterday tea time, all went smooth i think .. Now I slept fine, woke up with a reading of 14.0 (ignore the readings i have my reason why it is this) but i done my rapid, the correct amount at 9.00 and had breakfast.. A little while later (hour and a half) it has went off to 17.0.. Now tryinh not to worry i head out on a bike run to try and get the level down.. It had now went to 13.0.. About 15 mins later i test again for curiosity and its went to 17.0 again?! Please someone try to make sence of this but dont worry me anymore please :/!

Hi ya

Hopefully others will be along soon with more input, however it really makes answering questions a lot easier if you can be as thorough as possible when asking the question, for example, what food you ate, how much insulin you took, what your target BS is, how much food you ate etc etc. I have put my opinion below based on what you have told us so far :-

The level of 14 is not a great start to the morning, but as you say you know the reason behind this level, which is the main thing.

You took your insulin for breakfast at 9am, which you say was the correct amount, however you have not told us what you had for breakfast. Your level after breakfast had only increased by 3mmol/l which is not a huge increase considering the high levels you started at, that would seem to suggest your ratio for breakfast was in the correct ballpark at least. However after exercise it has risen back to 17, this could be one of 2 things

1. Dependant on what you ate for breakfast it could be a delayed spike, if your meal consisted of carbs and higher fat content this can lead to a delayed spike

2. When you exercise and your levels are higher than around 12, it can lead to your BS increasing rather than decreasing. The ideal range of BS for exercising is between 7 and 10 really, any lower could be heading for a hypo and any higher could be heading towards even higher readings. Must admit I am not an expert on the effects of exercise on BS but that is my new years target to be more active and start an exercise regime

As you've just changed to basal/bolus you need to get in contact with your DSN and they will advise you on adjusting your insulin doses @bigboi.

Hi
Never realised you had only just changed to Basal/Bolus, please speak with your team regarding this if you are new to this regime
Seems a lot to take in at first but it really does get easier, promise.
Also when you next see your DSN ask about getting onto a DAFNE course asap, that will really help explain so many things if you are new to Basal/Bolus
