Hi
Have been at work today (office job)
Had my usual breakfast egg & toast. BM was 7 about an hour after. Took 3 rice cakes for a snack & celery & Marmite for lunch. Did a BM & it was 17! Don't see how I got to that. Trying to stick to low carb too

Did you bolus for your lunch? Best check for a occlusion if you did, 17 seems very high for such a light lunch.

Yes I did bolus, that's why I'm confused?!
Gave 3 units to correct & did come down fine, so not a sight issue

Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason why bg goes high or low.

How many carbs was lunch? Is it a new site? If your site is in/near a vein it can affect the absorption. This would be noticeable sometimes when you bolus but not with basal. However if this was the case you would have noticed BG not correcting as easily too. Like Noblehead said sometimes there's no reason.

The site is in my arm, has been working fine. Carbs on yesterday lunch were 21 grams. Will see how I go today - got celery & cottage cheese & apple/cheese & will stick to water

At work now. Numbers were 12.6 an hour ago. Have changed set, put it on my leg, half hour later bm-11. Just had apple& cheese as starving, have bolused for it - just a bit worried as have a lot of paperwork to do (so sat doing nothing)

I'm not on a pump but I found that going onto a low carb diet meant that whilst each of my bolus doses roughly halved, I had to put my basal dose up by a number of units.

Overall, my total insulin dose on a low carb diet has been under what I was on when on a so-called normal diet.

Have you had a chance to do any basal testing since going onto the low carb diet?

Ed

I would definitely do some basal testing Jess, much like yourself I've not long started on a pump and know how important it is to get the basal rate right , if your unsure how to do this correctly then have a read of the following:

Hi.
Thanks for info
No haven't done basal testing, to be honest not entirely sure when is a good time, the other job is busy & not an ideal time to test basal rate, will have to try next week on a quiet day
Numbers have been ok today, running around 7

Just do the testing over several days rather than on consecutive days, the Salford article has a good explanation how to break the basal testing up into time slots, but today's bg results are encouraging so maybe things are starting to settle down...........hopefully :)

On lambing tomorrow, Friday & Saturday, so will be busy & taking on a bit more food, so is it wise to do the basal testing? Even if I didn't eat anything for about 4 hours as so busy would need to reduce my TBR?!

Probably not a good time to do it then, they say you should only do a basal test on days where you are not too active, so wait until the lambing is over.

I didnt do any real serious basal rate testing until I had been using the Combo for about 5 months and even then, I only did it for 5hrs at a time as that is what my consultant told me was best. Before that, I just staggered my eating times a bit so instead of eating at 8am, I eat at 10am etc.
