So I've been for bloods today to have the usual tests done today, kidney, liver funtion, and Hba1c done I'm a little apprehensive regarding my Hba1c results which I should get back last month.Currently on no insulin at all,my last Hba1c see came back 5.6 So was well happy with that, hoping to be under 6.0 I've upped my exercise since my last Hba1c but have eaten a little more than usual but levels have been very good.
I promise you all I've had a look round on the forum but I can't find the answer. @wiserkurtious you have highlighted my query. What is the usual way of reporting or recording blood sugar? My GP uses 104 and my meter says 16...
@nomoredonuts Your GP is using HbA1c figures, your meter shows mmol/L figures. GP/DNs can use either figures, or percentage figure. This is the table you can use to convert and compare the different figures:
Thanks for that @Prem51. I also gather that the HbA1c number is representative of my average blood glucose over recent weeks and my finger-pricks reflect what I've consumed recently.
I just wondered why not standardise with one measurement? Or is my GP just complicating things? I'm sure someone on here has the easy answer.
@nomoredonuts Yes the HbA1c is the amount of sugars in your blood over the last 8-12 weeks. The meter test only shows your BG level at the moment of testing, which can be affected by various factors.
The HbA1c is going to be the more accurate but your GP surgery can't test your blood everyday or several times a day obviously,
so the meter test gives a quick (and cheap) immediate indicator.
