Yesterday I was having coffee with a couple of friends, neither of whom know I have the big D. They both know I'm working through food intolerances and seem content on that.
Anyway, we got to talking about weight loss, as one of them, in particular, has gained weight since her new luuuuurve interest moved in. We talked a little bit about diet, then turned to exercise. I mentioned my more active lifestyle overseas is suiting me, but bemoaning my assessment that I'll not see the 6-pack I had when at my physical peak again. The skinny-mini recommended Pilates as a great way of really building core strength and creating more muscle tone. My other friend then pipped up,
“Pilates? Isn't that just lying on a squishy mat, holding your tummy in?”
I roared, but my Pilates loving friend was most put out, and clearly offended. I don't think she was over it by the time we went our separate ways.
It made me think that whilst we think there are lots of ill-informed Diabetes fascists out there, to the gym bunnies, there are obviously similar feelings towards the exercise sceptics. Maybe it's just a variation on a theme.
I'm still smiling now, thinking about it.
I know where I can find a Pilates class.
