odd results

Hi Sid, my A1c tests are always below 7. Sometime as low as 5.9. Nures is very happy with result and said it didnt matter that my 2hr readings are now mostly 7.7 - 9.0, even after a 55g carb meal. The 1 hr spike readings are 12-15. The pre-meal reading is normally 5.9 - 6.4 so the spike is massive. After 3 hours or more they do drop to 7 or below. I am concerned she is ignoring the spikes because the A1c is good.

I had a home made vegetable curry at work with a small amount of rice. Curry not thickened. Courgettes, tomato, onion, and other similar were the veg. I had 20 of novomix . I also had a very small cake and worked all afternoon. Not sedentary but not over active. This was at 12. 30 when I finished the meal. I had nothing else till 5.30 and my blood still tested 10.8 I must admit though , I did THINK about chocolate.

There is a school of thought that even short term spikes greater than about 8mmol/l are damaging to tissues. There is less evidence for this compared to hba1c readings, but it makes sense that abnormally high post prandial readings would cause damage.

Given your high levels post eating @al_leister, while your hba1c might be good, it's worth considering whether your diet is really good enough given the height of those spikes.

Just tested again , before my salad and chicken for tea. At 6.30pm had only gone down to 8.
Ps I am type 2 caused by prednisolone 15 + years ago and just been put back on these steroids.

This happens to me too...beef spikes me 1.5 - 2hours after my meal (I seem to be ok with other proteins). I have to do a square bolus on my pump to cover the protein spike.

This diabetes is one seriously strange condition.

Beef is almost the opposite for me. I find it to be the least bad protein in terms of spiking...!

it will be the rice its massively high in carbs I'm type 1 and have done the daphne course it gives you a book that gives you the value of foods bothh dry and cooked rice is high so are jacket potatoes and bread

Are you leaving 5 clear hours between eating and boluses? If not it could be a previous bolus still acting that could be altering the results that you are getting too.

Don`t actually know what you mean by bolus, is it something to do with insulin? I`m type 2 on metformin.

Hi Lynne

I am recently diagnosed with steroid induced Type 2 and have found that my BS level has much more of a relationship to when I take my steroids than what I eat. I take 30 mg prednisolone at about 9.00 am, and it starts to climb after that, and continues to climb till about 2 pm then starts to drop, rises a bit after evening meal , and then drops in late evening.
Typical readings would be
Fasting between 6.5 and 7
!0.30 am 9
12.30 (before lunch) 11 And I'm not snacking
2.30 pm 11 to 12
5.30 pm 8 to 9
7.30 pm 8 to 9
10.30pm 7
Very funny things steroids!

I tend to take either with or after meals.
