 Hi Everyone I'll apologise in advance but this is kind of a longish story. Ive had a horrible virus for the last 3 months, coughing, cold and flu type symptoms which just wouldnt go away. I have been to the doctor a number of times and been told its viral and time will heal it. Anyway about 2 weeks ago I noticed some new symptoms. I noticed my peripheral vision was a bit blurry, and I had absoloutly no energy - but I put all this down to that horrible virus. Then I developed a RAGING thirst, and can get through around 4-6ltrs of water a day which is much much more than my usual intake. I'm also incredibly thirsty at night, and with all those toilet trips I think it would be easier to sleep on the toilet with a bottle of water in hand. I also seem to be suffering from big mood swings - like bad pmt. Soooo, having had a chat with family on friday night I popped into lloyds chemist yesterday to get a free diabetes test. As luck would have it none of the weekend staff are qualified to operate the test, so I bought a freestyle machine which came with lancets and free test strips. Now my lovely mum (I'm 32 and mother of 2 by the way) is a nurse so I had her go through the test with me. I hadnt eated since friday night, and only had water to drink. I tested at 12pm (no brekkie or ANYTHING - xmas shopping at the crack of dawn), and my levels showed at 15.8. So 2 hours after lunch I tested again at 17.9.... then last night before bed at 24.6. I tested this morning before food at 11.9, and after a big sunday lunch at 23.6. Obviously I have no idea yet whether I am type 1 or 2 (or infact If I am actually diabetic - gp tomorrow). I was just looking for any advice or support you can give. I'm 32, symptoms came very quickly, a little overweight but not hugely, and my trousers are roomier now! Other than explaining the above to the gp, is there anything else I should be asking? On your first appointments was there anything you wished you had asked? Thanks Sal
