What sort of advice can I expect from the NHS dietician ? I hear they have a different idea altogether than we do on here carb counting etc, what will their advice be ???

Not seen one but the general gist of NHS dietary advice is

Eat a starchy carb with every meal
Eat low fat food
Eat plenty of fruit and veg

If you have been low-carbing and have any evidence of how your blood sugars have been improving, it's worth taking them with you along with what you've been eating to achieve those results.

Don't be surpirsed if they dont like it, if you have been low carbing
Be surprised if they are pleased if you have. That's where proof of your bloods and food is worth its weight in gold. How can hard facts be ignored?

There are glimmers of hope from some peoples HCP's advice and support.

Let us know how you get on

I've been dismissed for a year from mine, because I'm obviously not getting any useful information from them, in other words I'm not towing the party line.
But...you never know lol you might get an enlightened one, doubt it tho cos they are all paid from the same purse.

I was sent to an NHS dietician about 4 years ago when I was trying to keep HbA1C below threshold for Type II diagnosis. (Was officially diagnosed just under two weeks ago - now on 2 x 500mg Metformin). As I also wanted to lose weight I was shocked to be advised to eat a diet containg about twice as many calories as I typically consume. Most of the extra from starchy carbohydrates (as mentioned earlier). 2 x weetabix for breakfast!!! I find one a struggle, I wish the manufacturers would make them in half size (at half the price of course). I had to fill out a long questionnaire before hand and submit in advance of appointment. She clearly had not bothered to read it before the appointment or was looking at someone else's answers, judging from the comments she came out with.
