Sorry - I'm not much help but I was diagnosed with diabetes around three weeks ago.

I'm on Metaformin and have since developed cold hands, feeling coldand very tired, itchy palms and feet, feeling 'out of it' and not seeing very clearly.

So you may not be the only one....

Congratulations on the weight loss! :)
First thing to do is forget the "don't test" nonsense and get yourself a meter and test strips. I buy my supplies from Abbott Diabetes Care. (Uk helpline phone number 0500 467 466.) Their service is excellent. Your doctor is only telling you that to save money. How on earth are you meant to know what's happening without testing? In fact go nag your doctor about a meter. he should be letting a newbie have supplies; at least until they have learned what to do.
Then get Collins Little Gem Calorie Counter( a tiny book, about £4 on Amazon)It lists carbs too.
You say you've been following a diet. what have you been doing?
Note, a low fat/low calorie diet won't help much in blood glucose control. What you need is controlled carbohydrates. You'll need to decide how low in carbohydrates you want to go and then by testing find out if it works for you. The simplest way to remember what levels you should have, and yours sound all over the place from the symptoms you describe., is to aim to keep as close as possible to 5mmol/l. That's where non-diabetics are and I've never seen any reason why a T2 diabetic should aim anywhere else.
If you google for Diabetes 101, you'll find a site which explains most of the situation to you. there are links which you can follow to find answers to your particulwar queestions. You'll need to understand that Americans use different units from Brits. The conversion factor is 18.

Hello Sarah. :)

All your symptoms are fairly typical of uncontrolled diabetes and unless you test you will never know what your food is doing to your body and what foods cause the spikes. You need to tell your doctor that you want to be proactive in controlling your condition and really push for a meter and testing strips. It will actually be cheaper for them than all the complications which will ensue with uncontrolled diabetes.

Hot baths raise your BG levels. Walking around barefoot is discouraged as you may have numbness in your feet and may damage them – both without realising.

You will probably need to cut your carbs and only then will you feel better, not immediately as it will take time. Hana has given you good advice, so do assemble your toolkit and go for it! Much patience is required but you will feel better soon. :D

I feel for you as I was in the same situation about six months ago and remember very well how ill I felt. I am SO much better now!!! :D 8) :D Big <<<hugs>>>!

I have just come back from seeing my doctor with similar problems, but I was not on any medication.
Because I feel ill and miserable, I know that this too can affect my blood glucose levels.

Because I am getting easily confused and forgetful I wrote down all my health niggles, so she could see what was making me stressed.
I also took along my husband as moral support because the last few times I have visited the dr's practice, I feel as if I was not listened to or taken seriously.

I am now on Metformin and the Dr has also given me a Blood Glucose meter to monitor my blood glucose levels.
She has also diagnosed a sinus infection and depression, for which she has prescribed medication for too.

Go and make an appointment with your Dr and if you feel the same way I do, write down a list of your problems and take someone with you for support who can confirm that you are on a downward spiral.

Hope you feel better soon
