Hey again all,
I'm continuing in my own personal pump quest. Apologies if I sound a bit dull but I have a question & feel it may have been asked before but haven't got the time to trawl I'm afraid. Surely, someone must have thought of a pump with an integrated gadget type thing that monitors your BG's automatically & gives you the required amount of insulin without you having to 'faff' with testing, push buttons, figure out what amounts needed etc etc?. Basically an autonomous machine that only requires new cartridges to be inserted by the owner and thats it!. Perhaps it's in the pipeline or something, who out there knows???. It's just something I've been thinking about since looking into getting a pump & researching a little about pump technology. :?:

It's definitely in the pipeline but the technology isn't bulletproof enough or cheap enough to make it viable for mass market.

The current continuous glucose monitoring system that I've seen runs with approximately a 15 minute delay, so would not only be reactive but providing delayed reactions. Nowhere near good enough for tight controls.

The sales reps I have heard speak talked about this kind of technology coming to market, but not for at least 3-4 years, by which point any pump you obtain now will be up for renewal anyway.

We need to keep pushing the development, but don't let it get in the way of your immediate health.

Sam.

Cheers Sam, like I say, it was just a ' I wonder if..... ' moment but it sounds like theres hope in that direction!.
