Omnipod 5 & Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Hybrid Closed Loop

It's certainly not been well thought out in that respect. I'd like to see an upgrade but at least the price is low enough for NHS funding. (I don't think I'd qualify for the Dexcom G^)

I'm now on my 3rd sensor, so alternate arms each 15 days. Abdomen for the pod doesn't work for me, (not tried my thigh but doubtful) so arm (by far the best comms) and lower back.

No major problems as yet.

These posts are not filling me with positivity. I, along with many others, am being moved from the expensive Dexcom 6 to the much cheaper Libre 2+ fairly soon. I have had very few problems with the Dexcom but had lots with Libre 2 before I got a pump. I suppose I’ll have to wait and see what happens and request a return to Dexcom if it proves to be the disaster you are experiencing.

I started on the Omnipod 5 and Libre 2 plus recently and just wonder if anybody knows how to shut the device up? Not the actual pod, the little reconditioned mobile phone they use as the PDM? If I go high (above 12.0) it never shuts up, I will correct the high, but it's obviously not instantly going to bring me down, I can be above 12 for around an hour and literally every 5 minutes it's BEEP BEEP BEEP, you're high! then 5 minutes later BEEP BEEP BEEP, you're high!. Yes I know, I've corrected, it'll come down, stop telling me every 5 minutes! I've put it on vibrate, overrides it and beeps and keeps the volume high, I've turned the volume right down, overrides it and resets the volume to high. The only way round this is to turn it off and I'm not overly keen on doing that.

It went off in an interview the other day and totally threw me off my stride. I do love this thing but my god it never shuts up if you go a little high.

Just acknowledging will silence it, you can turn off alarms completely in the manage sensor menu. (I do this when visiting theatres)

Ah that's great, I hadn't checked the manage sensor menu and noticed that it's set to override the volume, I've turned that off and finally have some sweet relief! Thanks so much.

Does the sensor (Libre2+) talk to the pod, or to the controller device (OPM?)

Sensor talks to an active pod. It doesn't need the controller to adjust basal.

Few things



1) My alarms I was on my way home and was low and I had a tiny little “beep beep beep” alarm. It was a notification alarm that lasted a second and was very quiet. I did not hear it and as I have no visual aid I was unaware I was on my way to being low. If I am low in the night surely I need to be woken up like my dash used to. The noise was a beep not a constant alarm. I have gone to

Manage sensor

Sensor setting

Low glucose is on

Override volume settings is on



But I have nothing more than a beep beep beep once



I called the support number and the lady was not very clear she was like they are going to try and improve this in the update. But if I go low in the night there is no chance I can wake up to that noise.



I heard you mention the “scream” there is no scream noise. My other apps have a real alarm that wakes the whole house up!



What am I doing wrong?







2) DVLA dvla demand we do a cgm every 2 hours to drive. There is no way to take a sensor read and or prove ive looked at my cgm reading. What do I need to do for omnipod 5 and DVLA driving to make sure my insurance is valid please.





3) Is dexcom better for these alarms? As I feel ive gone from my old dash coupled with the amazing shuggah app where I had my blood readings on my watch my phone and my apple car play to a new system where I cant ever see it in real time without having to get my pdm out of my pocket and checking. This seems a giant step backwards but maybe im missing something? Does dexcom allow these functions better?

I feel I’ve taken a giant backward step and am scared of not waking up if I go low.

The alarms are quieter than dash, and no vibrate function. I've found it possible to miss them if my controller is in an inside pocket in a noisy environment.
At night I turn the alarms off (set to 5 and 12) I've found the unit does a remarkable job of keeping me stable therefor getting a good nights sleep. If it drops very low (2.9 I think) it alarms anyway but I've hardly had this. Interestingly the sensor itself alarms as as well as the controller.

The upside is relying on the system I've had few corrections to make. Even out dog walking BG drops below 5 would previously had me panicking and reaching for glucose. Now I just keep an eye, watch it turn around and chug back into range.

Re CGM for driving - treat it the same as pre-libre 2, when you had to scan. I've got two ways of getting the number - unlock the device and see what it tells you, and the other is to use the normal libre app on a phone and just scan by holding it to the sensor.

Not showing the current BG reading on the lock screen is a significant failing in Omnipod5 IMO, and I've told them so - but my voice carries no weight, so it would be good to have other people ask them for the same feature. Their contact details are on their website. And yes, it would be even better if it could be transmitted to other devices.

Strictly speaking the omnipod device isn't a mobile phone, so you could argue you're not banned from reading it when driving, but I would strongly suggest not doing that, Howerver a passenger could, or you could pull over.

Re your concerns about proving you've done a CGM read - there's nothing that requires you to keep records in that way, the requirement is that you check, not that you check in a provable manner. But the phone app scan records that it's been done in the log book, so just do that.

Re alarm noise - the alarms when you go very low are quite loud, you probably haven't heard those ones yet.

Activity feature (target 8 mmol/l) works well used when exercising or in a hypo risk situation.

The algorithm can make what appears to be odd choices, but learning to trust it. Sometimes its a matter of holding your nerve and sitting on your hands, mostly the algorithm is correct. Accuracy with bolus/carb ratio helps tremendously.

Hi, this is re assuring as I’m scheduled to move onto HCL in the new year. I’ve been 40yrs Type 1 and when ever I change routines,insulin types it takes time but I have full control and it’s letting some of that control go in the HCL which makes me hesitant

hi thanks for the time and the response.

re the issue with Freestyle libre 2 plus is that its lost it ability to take a scan with a time print. You can no longer scan it.
yup i hear you re the alarms but i have experienced a sub 3 alarm which was 3 very short beep beep beep at a pitch that is inaudible in your pocket. It sound slike when you used to get a text message on an old nokia phone.

ive spoken to my nurse who is going to send me a dexcom g6 to trial hopefully this iphone app will make me more confident.

Libre 2 Plus, libre app on phone, logbook - lists all the scans and when they happened. This is manual scans, ie hold the phone next to the sensor - the phone no longer recieves the automatic ones. I can see it right now, it does work!

ah sorry EvilClive perhaps you are correct. I have kept my old reg freestyle 2 running at the same time as im not overly confident. They have moved me to dexcom g6 now to trial that. I am in process of asking a few questions re this next.

Hi all

I've been running this system for a while now, not perfect but pretty good.
I need to wear the pod and sensor adjacent to each other on the same arm for reliable comms (which is inconvenient) sometimes I wear an armband to help keep things in place, it seems to help with adhesion too.
Pods last typically last from 48-60 hrs.

Does anyone know when the phone app is due to be launched in the UK?

I was wondering can you get your raw data, BG and insulin provided etc, from this system onto your computer?
It seems that you have to sign up to a data centre and your data is sent there automatically, but I'm not sure what you can get back.

Yes sign up to glooko, if you're on windows loads of useful data, android less so. Plus you can share data with your health care provider.

The handset only provides the basics.
