Most renal calculi (stones) are calcium oxalate, and can actually be seen on a plain old Xray of the abdomen. As opposed to gallbladder stones which can't, they have to be seen on an ultrasound "scan". Kidney stones can definitely cause blood in the urine because they scrape up the urethra (tube connects kidney to bladder) which is where they usually live.
Hi @Chloesnavy ..
Kidney stones are little lumps made up of crystals from the minerals calcium, oxalate and uric acid when there are more of these crystals than the fluid in your urine can dilute ..
If your pain increases and you can not pass urine, you could try A&E .. but having said that it's a few years since this last happened to and it may be that, now, a call to 111 may be a better option. But don't put it off ..
Unfortunately, they couldn't find the stone with the first ultrasound scan that the GP arranged. They later found it by injecting dye and a performing CT scan. Most likely would have been much quicker if it was found on initial scan. I hope you have more luck.
The dietary cause can depend on what type of stone you may have. I wouldnt recommend cutting out foods until you know what type of stone it is.I barely eat spinach tbh, I've had a bit of rocket recently but that's only been within the last few weeks! I'll google it though, thank you. The more I read about kidney stones, the more I think I definitely have them. Thanks for all the advice
And your liver is good at mo? You may have inflammation upseting that area of your body. GP examined you? Thanks. It's really aching today. I was just pressing on my right side and it feels really uncomfortable when I do that. Did it on my left side and it's fine
I think you might have meant ureter, because the urethra goes from bladder to the outside. Most renal calculi (stones) are calcium oxalate, and can actually be seen on a plain old Xray of the abdomen. Yes that's what I meant! I think she should be evaluated sooner than the end of the month. I mean someone's put her on 3 different courses of antibiotics and she has R flank pain still. I'd head to an ED. It's free there right?I think you might have meant ureter, because the urethra goes from bladder to the outside.
Have you spoken to your practice manager?
If you get a temperature, feel flu-like, or the pain worsens, get to A & E. I ended up with an abcess around my kidney stone, which was lodges just above my bladder. I dont wish to frighten you, but infections can be serious things, even when you are antibiotics, as the antibiotic may not clear all the bacteria.

@Chloesnavy go back to gp with pain. Please. A CT will help enormously. Is only gp observing your kidney care?

Well by the 30th of May you'll either be all better or get pyelonephritis (infection of the kidney not bladder) and get super sick. I'd travel for the 19th. England's not that big, how far can it be?I agree! They did offer me an earlier appointment at a different hospital (19th April) but it's miles away and I won't be able to get there! So I have no choice other than to wait til 30th may :-( it sucks

Call appointments and ask for a cancellation at your hospital need, hun. Let me know how you get on. How's thepain this evening?Mainly gp yes. Im having my scan at the hospital, that's it. It seems to me they're not really taking it that seriously. Can't have a scan til 30th may :-( they offered an earlier appointment at a different hospital (19th April) but it means I'd have to travel miles which I can't do!
