Hey guys new to this but just wanted to tell someone that I have felt strange this week.. I went to the doctor becuase my social anxiety is just getting worse so they gave me fluoxtine 20mg. I started off a tablet every 2 days and the week went okay.. this week I have been on 1 each day and have been feeling rather odd. I sometimes cant tell if its just diabetes or the pill. I have been feeling light headed , change of appetite, feeling sick and vey anxious etc. Only sometimes this varies around throughout the day/week. Today I had a pot noodle as I was a little hungry and all of a sudden as I finished the pot noodle I felt really low so I grabbed some sugar juice and some glucose tablets, I done my readings and ut was 11.2 which was lower from morning but strange it was this high. So I had sugar juice a couple of tablets and some crisps and fruit.. it took me a while getting out of that stage, I think it was a hypo.. not quite sure? Is this the fluoxtine thats doing this ? I never feel like that before I started on these please help .

Hello, and welcome :)
Are you Type 1 or 2? I'm assuming the latter, as you seem unsure if you were experiencing a hypo or not, it doe's sound unlikely though, after eating a pot noodle which would usually raise your blood sugar quite a bit...
However, Fluoxetine and other SSRI medications are introduced and weaned off very slowly, because they do have some initial side effects, and what you describe does sound as if it happened because of upping your dose to 20mg daily. If this is the case, your body should acclimatise to the new dose very soon.

If you are at all concerned by strange effects , or if they continue or worsen, do contact your GP as it might be necessary to taper the increase of your dosage more gradually.

Thank u for your reply! Im type one and the effects im getting are supposed.y just side effects but due to diabetes I worry as my appetite is very strange.. like today I had weetabix and wwas sick after it and all day I have the hunger feeling so I eat and after eating lots I still have that hunger feeling.. if I was sure it was side effects I may be a little more safe at mind.. I mean ive never felt hungry constantly even after eatjng before these tablets... I have been on them constant all week nkw so hopefully I will feel normal soon!
