On insulin and sleeping a lot?

My husband is now on insulin instead of Metformin and very unhappy about it! (He has type 2 and his levels only rose dramatically as he was hospitalized with a kidney infection and we believe it was the infection that highered the BG?
Now a month later he is on Novamix 30.
His levels are now coming down from the 33 that they were!! With 28mg am and 28mg evening, they are steady at anytime of the day at about 6?
However, he is sleeping, just dropping off at all strange times, he was not like this on Metformin? Is insulin a likely cause?
His diabetic nurse has been off work for 3 weeks so no help there!!
Our Dr has lowered his dosage a bit and he seems better but still gets shaky mid morning (any reading taken then is about 4 or under).
Can anyone advise us please? He cannot watch a tv programme without dozing off..... :(

*** Thank you for looking - he is off to see his doctor yet again this morning. *** Note added 8th Jan!

Well firstly a reading of about 4 would be way too low for me.This is probably the result of too much insulin.
From what Ive been told by my specialist, too rapid a change is bad..You should have been shown how to come down slowly..
Their is no absolute correct average..Ignore anyone who says different.I would suggest dropping 2 units per injection. Then change down agin in about a week till things improve.
You do not say how old your hubbie is? but If you look up my postings you will find Ive been sleeping almost 11 hours a night and several sleeps during the day from a ten minutes nap to a couple of deep sleeps etc.
The difference is that Ive been like this for over 18 years.Im now 66.
Even my specialist cannot give an explanation and to be honest they can only suggest trying different things.
Take it from me, Ive tried almost everything.A list would be well over 50 items long.Nothing so far has improved the problem.
Certainly diet has almost no correlation with readings/energy/or well being in my case.
Infections and antibiotics DO play havoc with you readings...
Personally my faith in specialist diabetic nurses is just above zero.Unless they are diabetic themselves?
I would suggest you read up on reaction to insulins (ie Lantus) and some products are known
not to agree with some people.
If one of the side effects is veering towards depression then shout out very loud if things dont improve..
Their are a number of threads about it on this site. Ive moved on to Levimir and currently on 66 units plus 44
novorapid daily. This is becoming less and less effective as Im currently averaging readings of 11 in the mornings. (Hba to follow in two days but it was 10.5 last time.?
If you read enough background study, it will tell you that being too high and too low will cause tiredness.?
Which is handy to know when other people have plenty of energy , ?even when high or low readings are the norm.
ie I Believe energy levels ie tiredness or in the case of sleep ,fatigue is something connected to your livers function.
It has never coincided with good or bad readings for me.
I do hope something happens for the better,,,If so..let me know.
ps. I can nod off to almost any tv and also a Mahler symphony at times.
