I feel a bit lost today, because over the weekend, my meter went on the blink.. The manufacturer has been helpful and is sending a replacement within 2-5 days. I have a spare meter but it only records my blood sugar. No advice. So I'm looking on this as an enforced holiday from all that data capture. I will have to be careful though, no behaving like I'm on holiday!

Hi Liz, ask your meter supplier to provide you with a spare meter as you are on insulin. Most companies do when asked to do so.
What meter do you use?

Hi, it's an Accu-chek Aviva Expert. The company are sending me a replacement, but it may take two to five days, don't know. It will be a challenge just managing with the more basic spare meter, but I reckon I can guess correct doses by looking at my charts like Mystic Meg.
I then have to send my faulty E-57 error meter )) back to its home, then I need to notify my DSN, I think that might be the tricky part.

AccuChek sent me a replacement meter and said it would take three days, but it arrived the next day They sent it special delivery.

I'm weird in that I only use my meter for testing anyway : D

Being on insulin you need 2 meters for your own safety. So request a 2nd meter from them. If they wont supply one then change company.

Likewise Azure, more often than enough Accu-Chek have delivered the next day, always found them to have an excellent customer support service.

Good luck @lizdeluz and hope the meter arrives soon, the Expert is a great little meter and I was using this prior to changing to a pump.

This is Tuesday night, rang Aacu-chek on Monday morning. Today I was out but on my return, found a letter and an envelope and decontamination kit so that I can return the faulty meter.

I do don't I? Not sure that my spare meter is ok for what I need.
Plus, I'm missing my old meter. If I leave the batteries in, it beeps gently as though it's saying, "Still here, sorry I can't help you."
I'll try to get a second Expert.

I find it better to have 2-3 meter and having one of a different make to double check odd readings and have 2 types of test strips on my repeat prescriptions it's normally easy to get another meter just go on the maker web site and ask for one as they normally have a sign up page which will include a meter offer. Your DSN should be able to give you another meter as most get them free from makers

Thank you for your reply. I will sort this out so that this doesn't happen again.

Update: no meter delivered yet, but I decontaminated my faulty meter, signed a form saying I'd 'decontaminated' it, packed the form and the meter in the plastic bag provided, put that in the envelope that brought the decontamination kit (2 swabs) and posted it.
Hoping replacement Expert arrives tomorrow. Spare Expert meter is top of To Do list for next week.

Update: still no replacement meter yet. Feels weird being set adrift, but I'm coping, just. This has made me realise I'm dependent on systems. I'm lucky to have those systems 99% of the time. As @Neemo said, it's not like diabetes in a war zone...

Are you T1 or T2. I'm T1 and cannot go without a meter for 12 hours. I would just go and buy a spare one with a pack of strips. In fact I did just that this week. 16 quid and I don't care!

This just shows how out of touch I am. It never occurred to me I'm afraid! I'm T1. I'm 'managing' with a lesser meter, but it's not good enough. Don't know how much an Aviva Expert would cost in Boots. Will look.

I'm hoping this could be the most boring story in the world, it hasn't got anything else going for it!
