Seems i am looking for ideas i wondered if the low carbers on here would help a few of us newbies out if you wouldn't mind, what i would like to ask if the people that have been low carb for awhile could give us a typical run down on a days food from breakfast to tea and snacks,i think this could help a few of us out, thanks, shan x

The secret,Shan,is to find foods that you like and are lowish carb and build your menu around them. For me that is a main meal with meat and veg and a smaller meal generally of various meats ,cheeses and salad ,plenty of nuts for snacks if required.Use a carb counter book to work out amount per meal and watch the portion sizes. My personal preference for breakfast is one weetabix ,milk and cinnamon. This is probably the highest carb meal I eat but I can't face cooking in the morning!!A lot of low carbers go for bacon ,egg etc for breakfast as a lower carb option.I substitute cauliflower for potatoes.I don't eat bread(two slices a week when I am at work) rice or pasta.

From Chocfish.

Breakfast

Kefir with blueberries and strawberries

Snack

walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts - 3 of each

Lunch

Made up a salad of gem lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, radish, spring onions, chopped parsley, then decided I was too cold to eat a salad, so I shoved the whole lot into the blender and slightly heated it up, added seasoning and it became soup :-) 2 hardboiled eggs sliced in half, topped with a generous dollop of hummous

Snack
Nibbled a lump of cheese, handful of red grapes

Dinner

Baked cod with pepperonata (I used mixed peppers for that) and veggie mash (pumpkin, celeriac, broccoli and a small sweet potato with seasoning and butter)

11.30 pm another snack - 3 oatcakes spread with butter and sprinkled with seeds - poppyseed, sesame seed and sunflower seed, the butter helped the seeds to stick to the oatcakes :-)

Drinks throughout the day = green tea, glass of red wine, water with splash of da vinci raspberry

I make my own kefir but you could easily have a nice thick greek yoghurt instead.

Shandromeda - instead of cod you can use a quorn fillet, eggs, low carb veggie sausages, since your bg is still high try to leave out the 11.30pm snack or at least make that just 1 oatcake so you dont feel totally deprived? Try and treat yourself in other ways to make up for missing certain foods, eg buy a book or a CD or a new nail polish, whatever floats your boat. And be really good to yourself, treat yourself to a lovely special bubble bath, spoil yourself a little now and then, remember being stressed out and worrying can also raise your bg

Breakfast: two oatcakes (12g carbs), smoked salmon, large handful salad including watercress and a couple of big fat peppery olives, small handful toasted sunflower seeds

Snack: one oatcake with peanut butter

Evening meal: chilli con carne: fry some chopped streaky bacon in (ground nut) oil, add coloured peppers, garlic, ground beef and more garlic. Add the kidney beans which you soaked overnight and then bloiled for an hour <G> tomato puree and lashings of hot chilli powder. I think I can handle a small quantity of rice with this, you may use quinoa, bean sprouts, etc. etc as lower carb substitutes, or cauli rice

Late night: maybe another breakfast, or stir fried prawns with sesame seeds cashew nuts and curry spices with another load of salad
