Hi All, can I ask is it just me or do all Diabetics keep getting one thing after another? I am so tired all the time, cut my work down to three days per week and I am struggling with that now, it takes me a whole day to get over working. Thyroid Meds have been increased to 100 msg, now I have got a cough feeling sick and lifeless. I am so fed up, and it's putting my job at risk , my blood levels are too bad now that Metformin has been increased to 1000mgs. I am type two diagnosed Spring this year.

Your symptoms sound like those that accompany a high blood sugar level. Do you undertake any testing to see where you are and have you made dietary changes to help remediate your diabetes?

Sorry I should have checked the script, it should read my blood levels aren't too bad and my last HBA1c was only 5.6 so I must be doing something correct, I have made a lot of dietary changes eat fairly low carbs. Last night when went to bed 6.3 and this morning fasting 8.6 , guess that was the dawn phenomenon .

It's not just you, many of us experience a string of illnesses or symptoms from time to time, and some of us have other conditions that cause ongoing issues.

A fasting BG of 8.6 is not great. See what it is like over the next few days and also what your pre-meal and 2hr post meal BGs are and let us know. Ideally your pre meal BGs should be low enough to allow up to 2 points post meal spike and still stay under 7.8. There could well be another condition, such as a cold, that is pushing your BGs up. What sort of foods are you eating?

I had a quick skim of your previous posts and you seem to have had fatigue for a long time. I have a type of chronic fatigue condition so if it's ok with you I am going to ask a few questions to try and help you get to the bottom of this, along with working with your doctor. Obviously I cannot give medical advice but I can ask questions and suggest information I have read or experiences I've had.

Is your doctor any good? If not, find a new one who will thoroughly investigate your symptoms. What medications are you on? Have you been diagnosed with any other conditions? Has the fatigue improved at all since your diabetes diagnosis and reducing your carbs? Is your thyroid condition optimally managed? Have you had blood tests for vitamin and mineral deficiencies and also the set of iron tests that is usually done when investigating fatigue? Do you have any issues to do with menstrual cycles? (If you prefer, you could let me know by PM instead). Do you have nasal or sinus issues and have you had a dental check up in the last 6 months?

Also, have you ever been told you snore or stop breathing and then gasp for air while asleep? Obstructive sleep apnoea can cause fatigue and other symptoms. Since we aren't aware of what happens while we sleep, then a sleep study is usually the only way to find out if breathing issues are causing a problem. A GP can make a referral for this study.
