Thanks, I rather want to say'everything'!! I'm sure I will have specific questions, once I calm down a bit.Glad you're getting to grips with it. Anything particular we can help with?
Hi Janey, BP for diabetics needs to be under 130/80 to be safe, so you might want to discuss it with your doctor. Uncontrolled high BP can damage the kidneys and increase the risk of stroke.Hi everyone & thanks for the welcome & info. There is so much to learn but I'm so relieved to have found this forum, was panicking a bit last week. And my BP was checked CatLadyNZ, 141/70 so not too bad I think.
A statin is aimed at treating lipid levels - often the GP goes by the total cholesterol level but this is misleading. The correct tests to look at are triglycerides, HDL and LDL cholesterol. Often people do not need a statin, and the side effects can be severe. There is a lack of evidence about statins and women too. You can ask for a printout of your blood tests for your info and future reference. Was started on a statin... though Im wondering about that now after reading some posts here. I'll ask more about it next time it's checked.

If you start getting symptoms that could be statin side effects, I would suggest discussing it with your doctor asap. There are a number of threads about statin side effects if you do a search.
High BP is treated with lifestyle changes and, if needed, medications. The side effects of these are usually minimal, if any. At your level of BP, the NICE guidelines say lifestyle changes should be tried before considering meds. I guess this means reducing excess weight, if any, and increasing exercise. I use meds to control my BP, as lifestyle changes didn't help.
