HI currently looking for ways to further cut my carb intake so was wondering (although I don't expect there to a great deal of difference):

Is there any difference in the carb content between red and white onions?

Thanks,
Steve

Less in red than yellow, I believe, but if you are counting to that level, go for spring onions.

There aren't many carbs overall, around 8 to 12g per 100 on average, (ish) and a lot depends on how sweet the onion is, if you compare a fairly unsweet variant of yellow to a sweeter red, there is a good chance the the results will be reversed.

I think for the amount of onion you are likely to be eating, the carb count isn't significant.

However, watch for stuff like French onion soup and caramelised onion.
The usual way to make onions caramelise is to put them in a frying pan and add sugar, which encourages the natural browning action of the onion.
