Excercise always seems to figure prominently in regulating blood sugar but what can you do if you aren't able to walk very far and can't get to a swimming pool?

Thank you for the link to YouTube, Pipp. I'll definitely have a go. Your story is very inspirational. I asked my diabetic nurse about the Newcastle diet but she told me not to do it. I had researched it and got copies and I was really keen to try it and felt geared up to give it my best so felt very deflated when she couldn't support me. I am doing the low carb programme through Diabetes uk now so I'll see how I go and try to speak to my nurse again at my next review - perhaps she'll see things differently by then, maybe read up on it herself.

Hi @Lilabelle

I am not sure why the Newcastle diet would be your first choice? Although you are keen to try it, perhaps there is a good reason the nurse advised against it? It won't suit everyone. Low carb is an excellent choice. A method I use now, and would certainly have considered it had I known about it before undertaking the Newcastle diet.

Perhaps your nurse will be more supportive of low carb, particularly if you provide the information from the studies of Dr David Unwin, a member here, I have copied the information from his member profile here..........

If you want to increase exercise, it doesn't have to be difficult. I cannot walk very far, and although I try to exercise in a swimming pool, this isn't always possible. Those days I am not able to swim I try to make sure I move as much as possible. Sometimes that is doing 'circuits' of the garden, using the furniture as equipment, holding on to chair backs and doing leg raises, doing arm raises holding small bottles of water, etc. Just doing calf raises waiting for the kettle to boil. I don't think exercising this way helps with my weight loss, but hoping it slows muscle wastage as I am of a certain age.

Keep reading around forums. Lots of support and ideas. Good luck.
