Oral thrush

I've never had oral thrush (as far as I know), but from reading this forum, recurring thrush is a dead giveaway symptom of uncontrolled diabetes. It was certainly one of the three giveaway signs (along with numb toes and frequent thirst / urination) that I had before diagnosis - so much so that I was having to regularly switch chemists to secure supplies of Canestan.

I think that the fungus feeds off of the excess glucose that you secrete when you BG is over 10 mmol/l. Mine disappeared as soon as I got my blood glucose under control.

Hi there yes I have had repeated bouts for about 5 months and given Nystatin which would clear it only for it to come back, I had many other symptoms apart from in the mouth.The doc told me it s rare in adults and often caused by diabetes.I have not been diagnosed yet will have results of a 2nd Fasting Test on Thursday(1st one was high but HB1AC normal ???).The last month I have begun to have many Hypo,s, perhaps its my bodies way of trying to control my high sugar.I bought my own meter ( on someones advice) and my readings range between 2.7mmol and 14.8mmol.Have you tried the Nystatin Oral Suspension (it tastes yummy lol)x

Hi the stuff I had was like a really stiff white stuff, so stiff it hardly comes out of the bottle, they give you a tiny little spoon with it.Also with the last bout I took a Canesten Oral Tablet which I bought myself as I had it elsewhere too, but it got rid of all the stomach symptoms I had.Perhaps, it has spread elsewhere with you, it can spread nto your system.Google "Systematic Thrush" or "Systematic Candida".I know how you fell its very frustrating when it keeps coming back and you feel really lousy with it x

I've had thrush for over a year and I suspect I had oral thrush for a few months before I got swabbed and diagnosed. The oral one's cleared but I still the thrush. I was told by my GP it could be an autoimmune reaction, others said it could be to do with the Diabetes (but I was told I had good control by the specialist).

I was diagnosed with slow onset Type 1 Diabetes last week which in itself is the autoimmune version of Diabetes.

Everyone's different however and we're not medical experts and this is not medical advice.

So first port of call is getting your results first and see what the doc says, it could either be the thrush is 'feeding off the sugar' from when you pee because your sugars are uncontrolled (ick I know) or it could be a sign you're immune system's gone a bit mad and it may even be nothing to do with Diabetes.

I was given pessaries as well as oral pills for thrush for a month, this didn't make a difference, it may help you but you need to follow the doc's guidance.
