Orange Juice

dollivor

Newbie
I've only been diagnosed 2 weeks so am still very much learning, so can I drink orange juice or not
as the sugar content seems very high ?

thanks dollivor

Hi dollivor,

Most of us ol' timers will tell you to steer clear of the OJ, because not only did he kill his wife, but the sugars will spike your blood glucose too. Useful if you're having a hypo, but otherwise best avoided.

The trouble with fruit juices is that they're really only sugar and water, so the sugars get straight into your bloodstream, whereas the actual fruit itself will do it more slowly because of the fibre etc.
A few of us also avoid eating fruit since the sugars are still too much to control with medication.

Welcome aboard, by the way!

Welcome to the forum,Dollivor.Well i drink about 1/2 a tumbler (75ml) of tropicana in the morning. It seems to have less sugar .I never touch anything that says made from concentrates.Again, test after drinking to see if it does send your sugars up.

Welcome,

The only time my daughter ( age 9) type 1 can have OJ is before exercise. One small carton is great for 30min swimming but needs to be avoided at all other times. We are also slowly coming to the conclusion that she needs to avoid bananas but so far all other fruit is ok.

Hope that helps
