Osteomyelitis

Hi - I’ve had type 2 for 15 years and I never really control it properly. Since having coved a year ago my diabetes deteriorated massively. I’ve had to have cataracts removed from both eyes and I’ve been diagnosed with neuropathy in both feet. I now have pre proliferation retinopathy and maculopathy which terrifies me. I’ve lost over 4 stone in weight on low carb no sugar diet and latest blood test is 42/6. But I have just been told I have osteomyelitis in right foot from ulcer that has not healed between little toe and next toe and I am on 6 weeks of antibiotics . It’s all terrifying me. Has anyone any experience of osteomyelitis? Thank you Attigo

Hi @Attigo, I can't help with your question but I was recently on a Diabetes course and a similar question was asked about someone with an ulcer and whether it would get better. The Consultant (on the course) said without a doubt the BEST way of getting such a thing to heal was to keep your glucose levels well within range as this aids the healing process. If it's any help, my type 1 Mum whose diabetes was horrendous (and high) over many years developed an ulcer on her leg which hung around for weeks & weeks, a concerted effort was made to lower her glucose levels and I swear that within 2 weeks you could see the ulcer healing. It healed fully in the end. KEEP your levels low as you are doing and in 6 weeks you may find your foot is in a much better state, or at least not as bad as it might be with high levels. Hopefully someone on this site might know about osteomyelitis. x
