Diabetic since 1989. I had been controlling my overnight high BG levels, with 50 units of Lantus and Metformia along with other pills at meal time. But because My Kidneys function blood work was 1.3 my doctor took the Metformin away. Since the normal high level is 1.2, I was not concern about it just yet, but who am I to question the wisdom of my doctor. Here is what happened after the miracle drug Metformin was removed from my medications for my diabetes. Now here it comes. My fasting and post meal numbers shot off the chart I couldn't increase my meal time medication , but I did increase my Lantus by 40 units, to 90 units to help my morning tastings. That worked, but pre-meal and post meal number were still unacceptable. I finally got thing under control again using Novolog Flex Pen, a fast acting insulin along with my Lantus and saw my AIC level at 6.1. My normal A1C was 7% or less. I was also allowed to get the Deccom G4 CGMS to better monitor my BG levels. The G4 is better than sex, well almost, lol. Now after all that here is my problem. I need a way to reduce the amount Lantus I am shoot up at night. 75 units is as low as I can get before my morning number start going up. I just don't understand why my liver loves me so and dump glucose that I don't need. Example, last night I did not take my Lantus, because I had read that the liver shouldn't dump sugar if your BG levels are normal or high. when I went to bed my BG level was 105. I took a Glucose table to bring it up by 15mg. I then watched my sugar by setting my low alarm on my G4 to 105mg and my high alarm at 150mg. My BG level remained steady at around 120mg until around 11PM the then the fun started. By mid night it had reach 150mg setting off my high alarm and from 12AM until 7AM my sugar went from 150mg to 250mg. Now, how is that for a liver stump or some of dump all night long. I know that sugar is unpredictable, but this is ridiculous I think. Just for information here was the food I had for dinner about 4PM, One Windy's hamburger and a small chilli with a few crackers. The only thing may have something to do with slow acting carbs from the my meal. Any direction or suggestions for this dumb diabetic?
