Hi everyone, has anyone been prescribed Ozempic please? If so, how have you found it? Thanks.

I tried it but was allergic to something in it.. so had to stop after 2 month, but if I had not had this allergy I would definitely have kept on, as I consider it the best medication there is right now for at typical type 2; where one is too fat and maybe also too inactive... really many loses at lot of weight by ozempic, some even by doing nothing else than taking the medication, it also regulate the spikes of insulin to be in connection to when one eats a meal..so I wan't to wish you good luck with it, I don't think it is a good medication to a rather thin type 2 diabetic if one starts to lose a lot. I had one night in the start where I did vomit a lot and some nausea, but nothing more than I could have easily lived with that, but I started to itch in the face and tongue and decided to not dare to risk an even more severe allergic reaction toward Ozempic

I suggested a similar medication to my GP and then he told me about Ozempic which is rather cheap when being a type 2 diabetic here in DK, I did lose 2 kg , even being only on 25mg of ozempic pro week

I started Ozempic 6 weeks ago. I'd previously been on Byetta then Victosa. My bg had been about 8 (on low carb ~50g/day) but was hovering around 17 for about 10 days, so Dr changed me to Ozempic. I started on the full dose with no stomach issues. 6 weeks on, BG hovering around 14 and no weight loss. Review is next week.

Thanks so much, I need to lose a lot of weight so may need to consider it as I'm not keeping my levels down at the moment. Hope you can find a suitable alternative that works for you.

Thanks for the response. My levels have been in the teens recently, I seem to get levels down for a while but then my diet slips and back up it goes. DN thinks Ozempic might help me so may give it a try. Glad your levels are coming down, hope that continues for you. Pleased that you have no stomach issues with it either, that's encouraging.

Hello I'm week 7 on these injections, I've been pre diabetic a long time controlled by diet but ive put a huge amount on, on metformin along with the injections.
I've lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks re educated myself and counting every carb sugar kcal, m upping my water intake this week.
I get bloating and suffering constipation so added soluble fiber to help.

Would be good to understand if there are any requirement in order to be put on this drug, do you have to be overweight to begin with?
Long term (15 years) metformin was deemed to be damaging my kidneys and victoza no longer controlling bg levels despite >50g carbs/day. I was told that it can only be prescribed by a consultant as it is so expensive - I was being seen by the endo team at hospital.

Update - I had a diabetic review today with the DSN at GP surgery.
I've been on Ozempic for 9 weeks and lost 3kg - oh that's lovely, she said! Really?
My bg average dropped from 17 to 13 - that's a great result, she said! Really?
I pointed out that most people see much greater drops in much shorter time - but it's going in the right direction, she said!
I'm hoping for a more detailed and more realistic review with the endo team at hospital next month.

@Shelleymomma - did you start taking Ozempic, have you had any success?

@Skippy1 - that's fantastic news! Are you able to shed some more light on your kidney damage and what medications you were on prior? My current eGFR is around 40 so I have moderate kidney damage. I'm on Invokana, Janumet (contains 1000mg metmorfin) and Glicazide. What dose of Ozempic are you on?

Did you consultant say what medications were bad for kidneys apart from Metmorfin? I've been told Invokana can support kidney function. I'm soon to discuss with my GP if I can be on Invokana and Ozempic, sounds like I need to be referred to a consultant to discuss further.

@super_mum1001 I believe eGFR at around 30 is the trigger to consider stopping metformin. Mine is in the high 20s at the moment. Metformin blocks an enzyme which can lead to the development of lactic acidosis. I only know about the drugs I'm taking, so can't help with the invokana.
High blood sugar levels cause damage to the filter units in the kidneys too.
Hope you get sorted with a consultant.
