I have been injecting Levemir for over a year now without any problems. About 3 months ago I started getting a red mark around my injection sites which is about 1.5 inches across and lasts for a day or so. Now I am getting pain as the insulin goes in, not the needle itself but when I push the plunger. I have just been put on Novorapid as well which I am starting after I see the nurse next week and am worried that I will have more pain with this. Am also finding that I can only inject on the lefthand side of my body as the right really hurts with the needle. Any advice?

The red mark and the pain might suggest that your having a allergic reaction to levemir insulin, there is another insulin that just came on the market last year called Tresiba, you should ask about it when you next see your diabetes nurse.

I am a bit on my own at the moment as I see the specialist at the hospital every 6 months but see a different one every time who tells me something different. Got an earful last time for low carbing .. this time was asked why I wasn't!! I am very sensitive to carbs and have to stick to below 30g per day to reduce my bg and I can't keep it up for long periods. Some can .. I can't.

I mentioned the redness to my diabetic nurse at the doctors but she won't do anything as I am under the hospital and they never answer the phone .. EVER. I was supposed to see a nurse last Thursday at another hospital but they never rang so will wait for next week. If things go true to form I will spend all next week trying to ring them and end up googling and starting it myself.

Ring the hospital switchboard and ask to speak with your consultants secretary, explain to them that your having trouble getting a reply on the phone and hopefully they'll push things forward for you.
