Hi,

My husband was diagnosed at Easter with type 1 at the age of 43. Yesterday we went for a wonder around a local town (we live in Germany, forces), he had breakfast at 10.30 am and by 12.45pm he was asking me for his Dextros, I asked why he was having a low and he didn't know. Anyway he popped around 4 Dextros and then we headed off for McDonalds for him to eat, it was the nearest option. Anyway shortly after eating he was complaining of having sore eyes, he described it as the same as when he went to the opticians and had to have his pupils dilated, just aching felt like he had been punched and didn't like any brightness. He went for a lie down and after eating his tea felt better. This morning he says his eyes are fine. I am just wondering does anyone know why this happened and is it likely to happen again? Many thanks

Hi
I'm Guessings its because after the 4 glucose tablets and a Macdonalds his BG went too high. I beleive that high blood glucose can cause blurry vision and sometimes pain. Might be worth getting his eyes check by the opticians just to be on the safe side.

Im a bit new to this myself and only a type 2 but im sure someone will be along soon to give a fuller answer

Best regards
Brian

I've had this. Photosensitivity. I've done blood tests when it's happened, and they have ranged from v low to high. I think, though, that it's more often high. So I think it's something to do with the sudden increase in sugar levels, and the body not reacting well to it. But you should ask your doctor, cos I'm not an expert, and only going by guesswork. I have to admit, I've never asked anyone about it. Just got on and dealt with it. I have been asked to attend the eye clinic, however, to check the bit behind my eyes, since they are a bit concerned. I'll be doing that as soon as I'm back in the UK properly. So go get your husband checked out :) better safe and sounding worried, than sorry and staying quiet.
